# Avant Garde Eco Rocking Chairs Hongtao Zhou's CNC Rocking Chair By lourdes sanchez bayas | Published 2008-03-30 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/avant-garde-furniture-design-hongtao-zhous-cnc-rocking-chair References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/index.php/2008/03/28/this-chair-demands-rocking/) & [web.ics.purdue.edu](http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~hzhou/) This rocking chair by designer Hongtao Zhou has a strange but very attractive design. Yanko Design notes, "It all comes together in a searies[sic] of joists and notches so fundamentally, it's adjustable. And for you greenies out there, it's made of renewable materials. I almost feel like it needs a motor or something so I can zip across the floor". I can't help but like the design because the rocking chair looks so cute. But it looks flimsy to me. It looks more like an art piece than a fully functional rocking chair. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.1/10 - Popularity: 44% | Activity: 41% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Eco-friendly Furniture:** Hongtao Zhou's rocking chair is made of renewable materials, highlighting the trend towards eco-friendly furniture designs. - **Adjustable Furniture:** The joists and notches in Zhou's rocking chair allow for easy adjustment, showcasing the trend towards customizable, adaptable furniture designs. - **Artistic Functionality:** Zhou's rocking chair blurs the line between art and function, reflecting the trend towards furniture designs that are both visually appealing and practical. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Manufacturing:** The innovative design of Hongtao Zhou's rocking chair presents manufacturing opportunities for companies looking to produce eco-friendly and customizable furniture. - **Art and Decor:** Zhou's unique rocking chair design can find disruptive innovation opportunities in the art and decor industry, appealing to customers looking for functional art pieces. - **Sustainable Materials:** The use of renewable materials in Zhou's rocking chair opens up opportunities for the sustainable materials industry, catering to eco-conscious consumers seeking environmentally friendly options. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Contemporary Rocking Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/penguin-rocking-chair.md) - [Modernized Rocking Chair Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nodding-chair.md) - [Wooden Lounge Rocking Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nice-chair.md) - [Otherworldly Themed Rocking Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ufo-rocking.md) - [Geometric Rocking Chair Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oval-rocking-chair.md) - [Sea Creature-Inspired Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seat-urchin.md) - [Structurally Complex Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-arch-chair.md) - [Motion Blur-Inspired Rocking Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fast-rocking-chair.md) - [All-Direction Wobbling Rocking Chair](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wobbling-rocking-chair.md)
