The 'Australian Islamic Center' is an architecturally unique mosque and community center for the [Muslim](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/muslim-hikers) population in Melbourne. Designed by award winning architect Glenn Murcutt, the first images released of the concept show a series of triangular yellow skylights that will cast a calming glow on the rooms inside.

Slated for completion towards the end of 2016, the Australian Islamic Center will be a boon for both the Muslims in Newport -- the Melbourne suburb in which the mosque is being built -- and non-Muslims interested in learning about Islamic religion and culture. The community center within the building will house a [small museum with exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studio-for-architecture) that relate to Islam.

The yellow of the rooftop skylights was chosen as a reference to the traditional star and crescent that symbolize the Islamic faith.
