# Futuristically Undulating Structures The Aurora Borealis Arctic Observatory Enhances the Sighting By Meghan Young | Published 2013-04-17 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aurora-borealis-arctic-observatory References: [plusmood](http://plusmood.com/2013/04/aurora-borealis-arctic-observatory-the-wings-of-the-dawn-goddess-jensen-liu-and-sally-hsu/) The Aurora Borealis Arctic Observatory is almost as beautiful as the natural phenomenon that inspired its conception and possible construction. Although it boasts a [sleek and futuristic aesthetic](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-lucas-museum-of-narrative-arts), the lines of the design are as soft and undulating as the lights projected in the sky. Not to mention that it blends into its wintry setting perfectly. Designed by Jensen Liu and Sally Hsu, the Aurora Borealis Arctic Observatory is meant to be built between the mystical occurence of the [northern lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/borealis-series) and the urban landmark of Rovaniemi. Designed to to capture and enrich this priceless sighting, it was greatly influenced by the awakening moment of the [Eos](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/my-pinterest-to-life) (the goddess of dawn), which is meant to enhance the lights. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.1/10 - Popularity: 77% | Activity: 37% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Futuristic Observatory Structures:** The design and construction of futuristic observatory structures that capture and enhance natural phenomena opens up opportunities for disruptive innovation in architecture and tourism. - **Integration of Nature in Design:** The integration of natural elements in architecture, such as undulating lines and blends into natural settings, presents opportunities for disruptive innovation in eco-friendly and sustainable constructions. - **Enhancement of Tourist Experience:** Using architecture and design to enhance tourists' experience of natural phenomena, such as the northern lights, presents opportunities for disruptive innovation in tourism industry offerings and services. ### Where This Applies - **Architecture:** The integration of natural elements and futuristic design into architectural structures presents opportunities for disruptive innovation in the industry, allowing for eco-friendly and sustainable constructions. - **Tourism:** Utilizing architecture and design to enhance tourists' experience of natural phenomena presents opportunities for disruptive innovation in tourism industry offerings and services, allowing for increased revenue and customer satisfaction. - **Construction:** The design and construction of futuristic observatory structures presents opportunities for disruptive innovation in the industry, such as the use of new materials and construction techniques to create sustainable and environmentally friendly structures. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Stars-Inspired Elliptical Planetariums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/planetarium-design.md) - [Physics-Based Artful Light Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aura-collection-1.md) - [Kinetic Interaction Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/transmutation-observatory.md) - [Angular Educational Facilities](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oarvemtta.md) - [Interactive Architectural Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folding-landscape.md) - [Salmon Scale-Inspired Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/salmon-eye.md) - [Eclipse-Themed Rooftop Artworks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arc-zero.md) - [Nature Hyperboloid Observation Towers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/observation-tower-krven.md) - [Lunar-Based Rotating Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moon-pavilion.md)
