# Conversation-Muting Audio Robots These Miniature Robots Can Function As Microphone Arrays By Rahul Kalvapalle | Published 2023-09-24 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/audio-robot References: [interestingengineering](https://interestingengineering.com/innovation/noise-canceling-robots-to-mute-loud-conversations-in-cafe) & [washington.edu](https://www.washington.edu/news/2023/09/21/shape-changing-smart-speaker-ai-noise-canceling-alexa-robot/) A team of scientists and researchers working out of the [University of Washington](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/proactive-hearing) have devised an innovative way to deploy audio robots in the service of being able to mute and isolate conversations in loud environments. These audio robots are designed to be able to take off from a charging dock and then go about using their embedded speakers and microphones in a highly precise manner in order to optimize and control volume spaces. In addition to being an eminently fascinating endeavor, the fact of the matter is that these audio robots present some very desirable real-world applications. For example. in a world where digital live-streaming is increasingly important, these audio robots could be effectively used as a [microphone system](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-wireless-microphone) to improve the quality of audio being conveyed from a conference center to remotely located digital viewers and listeners.
