Unlike past reinterpretations, this piece of [playful furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bug-table) uses traditional materials. Instead, it introduces twist by way of its form. This atypical table tennis set swaps out the traditional rectangular shape for the irregular form of Easter Island, which is found in France. Designed by artist Cyprien Chaber, atypical table tennis set is "a commentary on the birdman ritual of the aboriginal inhabitants and the island's ecological history," according to Neatorama. Currently on sale at [Anthropologie](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/farm-rios), the table also focuses on "the complex nature of man’s relationship with nature and the ecological challenges faced by modern societies and cultures," as written on the Anthropologie website. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.3/10 - Popularity: 85% | Activity: 97% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Irregular Table Designs:** Designing ping pong tables with unconventional shapes and forms offers an opportunity for creativity and unique user experiences. - **Combining Tradition and Innovation:** Blending traditional materials with innovative designs can create visually striking and conceptually interesting products, such as this atypical table tennis set. - **Artistic Commentary in Functional Design:** Infusing deeper meaning and symbolism into everyday objects like ping pong tables can lead to thought-provoking and engaging artwork that resonates with consumers. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Design:** Exploring unconventional table designs can spark creativity and innovation in the furniture industry, offering unique products for interior design enthusiasts. - **Recreational Equipment:** Incorporating artistic elements and unconventional shapes into recreational equipment can attract consumers looking for visually appealing and aesthetically engaging products. - **Art and Sculpture:** Creating functional art pieces like the atypical table tennis set opens up opportunities for artists and sculptors to showcase their creativity in new and unexpected ways. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Posh Pastel-Hued Game Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casablanca-ping-pong-table.md) - [Luxury Transparent Game Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/effetto-71-ping-pong-table.md) - [Fashion-Branded Ping Pong Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kith-for-wilson-ping-pong-table.md) - [Elegant Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tangent-table.md) - [Reflective Ping-Pong Parlour Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/match-point-installation.md) - [Hybrid Party Game Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tiburon-tables.md) - [Playful Wavy Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wavy-table-design.md) - [Pop Art-Inspired Foosball Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rs4-home-x-hey-foosball-table.md) - [Island-Inspired Wooden Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/island-table.md)
