# Robotic Sci-Fi Pets The 'AT-AT Day Afternoon Video' Shows a Star Wars-Inspired Dog Replacement By Allison Love | Published 2010-06-30 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/at-at-day-afternoon References: [theawesomer](http://theawesomer.com/at-at-day-afternoon/47653/) & [vimeo](http://vimeo.com/12892083) Patrick Boivin only wanted two things as a child: a dog and an 'AT-AT' (for non-Star Wars fans, that's a [robotic animal-like thing](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/robot-dog-concept) featured in the movies). So, as a grown man Boivin created the 'AT-AT Day Afternoon' video, which features his very own AT-AT creation. The video itself is pretty funny, showing the AT-AT doing very dog-like things (like peeing on a hydrant and running around a park to play with other dogs). The 'AT-AT Day Afternoon' video is Patrick Boivin's dream realized, showing that childhood dreams can still come true. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.7/10 - Popularity: 6% | Activity: 67% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [AI](https://www.trendhunter.com/ai) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Robotic Pet Companions:** The development of robotic pets as companions that can mimic the behavior of real pets could disrupt the traditional pet industry. - **Sci-fi Inspired Robotics:** Incorporating sci-fi-inspired designs in the development of robotic devices could lead to new and unique product offerings for consumers. - **Nostalgia-inspired Products:** Creating products that tap into consumers' nostalgia could provide a unique selling point and differentiate a brand from its competitors. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Robotics:** The development and production of robotic devices for a variety of applications is a growing industry with many opportunities for innovation. - **Pet:** The traditional pet industry could be disrupted by the development of robotic pet companions that offer similar benefits and reduce the responsibilities associated with owning a real pet. - **Entertainment:** The use of nostalgia-inspired products in entertainment could appeal to consumers looking for familiar and comforting experiences in an ever-changing media landscape. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Movie-Inspired Digi-Pets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/star-wars-tamagotchi.md) - [Festive Sci-Fi Building Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gingerbread-atat-walker.md) - [AI-Powered Robotic Dogs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/laika.md) - [Sophisticated Sci-Fi Toy Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lego-ultimate-collectors-series-atat.md) - [Independently-Running Robotic Dogs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/robotic-dogs.md) - [Musculoskeletal Robot Dogs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/robot-dog-design.md) - [Robotic Canine Companions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/metadog.md) - [Bio-Inspired Guard Dog Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cyberdog-2.md) - [Dog-Inspired Surveillance Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/robot-dog-concept.md)
