# Peculiar Asymmetric Chairs This Chair Design by Caroline Eriksson is an Artistic Statement Piece By Mishal Omar | Published 2016-06-13 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/asymmetric-chair References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/connesso-chair-hidden-meanings-symbolism/?utm_source=feedly&utm_medium=webfeeds) & [ikkionno](http://ikkionno.com/) This asymmetric chair, designed by Caroline Eriksson, makes a statement about "unclean history." The Connessio chair is unlike most as it does not seem to follow any common home design pattern to speak of. It features a white stool-like base with a support system that is almost non-existent. Instead, a rod replaces the area where the back rest normally sits and support comes in the form of a [single line that curves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-heart-chair) over to attach itself to one of the chair's legs. While not the most functional piece of furniture, it was designed for the purpose of representing "hidden information" in a single object along with "the ideals of a modern city." This asymmetric chair is meant to reflect on and represent the process of design and it does just that with its [simple yet perplexing design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/experiment-chair). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.4/10 - Popularity: 45% | Activity: 20% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Asymmetric Design:** Designers can explore new possibilities in furniture design by incorporating asymmetry to create a unique statement piece. - **Minimalistic Furniture:** Furniture manufacturers have the opportunity to create functional pieces with a minimalist design that still make a bold statement in any room. - **Symbolic Furniture:** Furniture designers can create pieces that symbolize a message or story, allowing the furniture to hold a deeper meaning beyond its function. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Opportunities exist to create unusual and visually striking furniture that still retains functionality for consumers in the market for unique design pieces. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers have the chance to create bold and atypical spaces using furniture with non-standard structure as either centerpieces or statement pieces. - **Artistic Design:** Artists and designers can collaborate to create furniture pieces that are not simply functional, but also convey meaning and represent creativity and aesthetic value. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Structurally Complex Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-arch-chair.md) - [Artfully Balanced Chair Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/halfway-serious.md) - [Weather-Versatile Conical Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/conicent.md) - [Minimal Geometric Chair Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/euclid-chair.md) - [Chaotically Natural Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kkochgalam-chair.md) - [One-Legged Structural Wooden Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pere-chair.md) - [Timeless Contemporary Dynamic Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bodo-sperlein.md) - [Circular Modernist Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zerogravity-chair.md) - [Simplistically Shaped Geometric Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sitter-chair.md)
