# Artsy Overcast Installations The Asif Khan Cloud Project Stimulates Shaded Conversations By Meghan Young | Published 2011-06-19 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/asif-khan-cloud References: [coolhunting](http://www.coolhunting.com/design/the-cloud.php) & [asif-khan](http://www.asif-khan.com/) Since clouds inspire imagination and even creativity, I am not surprised that they are often replicated in some form in the art world; take the Asif Khan Cloud as the perfect example. This stunning art installation was created not only to encourage imagination, but also to stimulate conversation. Created for Design Miami this year as part of the W Hotel's Conversation Pieces exhibition, the Asif Khan Cloud art installation is actually as abstract as the clouds it replicates. Made out of helium, soap and water, the soapy bubbles rise into the air, only to be caught by a wire net. The result is that the Asif Khan Cloud installation becomes "an [architectural experiment](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/some-kind-of-practice) into what’s the simplest way to create a [shaded space where conversations can happen](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/in-the-assembly-of-lovers)," as the designer puts it. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.3/10 - Popularity: 25% | Activity: 36% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Cloud-inspired Installations:** Art installations inspired by clouds are becoming increasingly popular, creating a trend of immersive and imaginative experiences that can be designed to inspire creativity and conversation. - **Sustainability in Art Installations:** There is a growing trend towards eco-friendly and sustainable art installations like the Asif Khan Cloud, creating opportunities for artists and designers to incorporate natural elements into their work in innovative ways. - **Multi-sensory Art Experiences:** Art installations like the Asif Khan Cloud are part of a larger trend towards immersive and multi-sensory experiences that engage viewers on a more personal and interactive level. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Art and Culture:** The art and culture industry can leverage cloud-inspired installations like the Asif Khan Cloud as a way to create novel experiences and draw in a wider audience. - **Hospitality and Tourism:** The hospitality and tourism industry can incorporate immersive and multi-sensory art installations like the Asif Khan Cloud to enhance the guest experience and distinguish their brand from competitors. - **Architecture and Design:** The architecture and design industry can explore the use of sustainable and innovative materials, such as those used to create the Asif Khan Cloud, to create unique and eco-friendly structures and spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Accessibility-Enhancing Public Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/isometric-studio.md) - [Organic Cloud-Like Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/khmara.md) - [Billowing Modular Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/curly-cube.md) - [Eclipse-Themed Rooftop Artworks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arc-zero.md) - [Monumental Air Installation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iwagumi-air-scape.md) - [Inflated Design Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/air-as-a-main-material.md) - [Artful Garden Inflatable Spheres](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/this-is-air.md) - [Desert Reflective Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shadow-travelling.md) - [Spiky Inflatable Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/inflatable-sculptures1.md)
