# Rolled Paper Portraits (UPDATE) Artist Yulia Brodskaya Portrays a Sad Smoking Woman By Meghan Young | Published 2013-03-28 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/artist-yulia-brodskaya References: [thisiscolossal](http://www.thisiscolossal.com/2013/03/new-quilled-paper-portrait-from-yulia-brodskaya/) & [artyulia](http://www.artyulia.com/) Artist Yulia Brodskaya is at it again with her stunning rolled paper artworks. For her latest masterpiece, she has created the portrait of an old woman smoking a long pipe. Although similar to her previous [Babushka series](http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/babushka-series-by-yulia-brodskaya), this rendering is much more whimsical. This is due in large part to the vibrant colors used to portray the woman's hair and face, which contrasts greatly with the natural tones used in artist Yulia Brodskaya's last piece. Beautifully spiralling into a soft expression of sadness, artist Yulia Brodskaya's artwork will resonate deeply with many people. Born in Russia and based in the United Kingdom, she has done work for dozens of the world’s largest brands and publications. This is a great example of why her art is so highly sought after. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.7/10 - Popularity: 53% | Activity: 50% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Rolled Paper Artworks:** There is a growing trend of artists creating stunning portraits using rolled paper, presenting an opportunity for artists and artisans to experiment with this unique medium. - **Whimsical Art:** The use of vibrant colors and unconventional themes in art is gaining popularity, providing artists with an opportunity to create whimsical and visually captivating pieces. - **Emotional Art Resonance:** Artworks that evoke deep emotions and resonate with viewers are becoming increasingly popular, opening up opportunities for artists to create meaningful and impactful pieces. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Art and Design:** The art and design industry can leverage the trend of rolled paper artworks to create innovative and visually striking pieces that captivate customers. - **Crafts and DIY:** The crafts and DIY industry can explore the trend of rolled paper artworks to offer unique and creative projects for enthusiasts to try at home. - **Publishing and Media:** Publishing and media companies can feature and highlight artists who create whimsical and emotionally resonant artworks, attracting a larger audience and generating new revenue streams. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Glamorous Artful Bronze Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sweet-jane.md) - [Paper-Made Mosaic Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/real-life-architecture-exhibition.md) - [Origami-Inspired Porcelain Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/saori-matsushita.md) - [Smokable Art Pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flower-by-edie-parker-1.md) - [Cyclical Life-Themed Russian Dolls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nesting-dolls-1.md) - [Biology-Inspired Porcelain Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shiyuan-xu.md) - [Artist-Approved Intricate Wallpaper Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/printed-decors.md) - [Rose Extract-Infused Rolling Papers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rose-wraps.md) - [Sculptural Paper Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fragmenti.md)
