The task took him more than 10 hours every day for a week to complete and was done on the floor of [Weber State University](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-charcoal-grill) in Utah. Once the exhibition is complete, the salt will be scattered into the Great Salt Lake as a symbolic homage to the use of his materials. This project was Yamamoto’s way of coping with the loss of his sister. It is customary tradition in Japan to use salt as a ritual during funerals; it is believed that it will welcome good spirits after death and avoid evil ones. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 19% | Activity: 6% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Salt Installations:** Creating large-scale art installations using salt as the primary medium. - **Symbolic Homage:** Using materials with symbolic meaning to pay tribute or commemorate events. - **Art as Coping Mechanism:** Expressing personal emotions and experiences through artistic projects. ### Where This Applies - **Art and Design:** Opportunity for artists to explore unconventional materials and create unique installations. - **Funeral Industry:** Incorporating traditional rituals with innovative elements to enhance the funeral experience. - **Wellness and Therapy:** Using art as a form of therapy and self-expression to cope with loss and grief. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Destructive Nature Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/keita-miyazaki.md) - [Interactive Marine Ecosystem Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/marine-ecosystem-sculptures.md) - [Architectural Sugar Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-story-of-salt-and-sugar.md) - [Monumental Air Installation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iwagumi-air-scape.md) - [Interactive Kinetic Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-kinetic-sculptures.md) - [Desert Reflective Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shadow-travelling.md) - [Resin Gravity Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-great-tree.md) - [Mesmerizing Sand Pattern Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crystal-sandsara.md) - [Seasonal Interactive Fashion Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/washi-paper.md)
