# Vibrantly Painted Soil Artist Katharina Grosse Creates a Colorfully Engrossing Experience By Meghan Young | Published 2013-08-02 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/artist-katharina-grosse References: [beautifuldecay](http://beautifuldecay.com/2013/08/01/katrina-grosses-gigantic-installations-of-brightly-painted-soil/) & [katharinagrosse](http://www.katharinagrosse.com/work.php?id=2163&cat=2013) The work of German artist Katharina Grosse is utterly breathtaking. While her [past work](http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/they-had-taken-things-along-to-eat-together) has revolved around colorfully spray painted surfaces and, most recently, her [latest exhibition](http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/katharina-grosse-wunderblock-exhibit) straddles between the art of containment and expansion, it is her series of painted soil that will really capture people's attention. Whether used on its own or surrounding giant crystal-like structures, artist Katharina Grosse's painted soil looks like something that would be found on an alien planet. Of course, there is a deeper meaning to the installations than that. As written on Beautiful Decay, "Her installations raucously question the very space they inhabit by allowing visitors experience it in a transformative way." Artist Katharina Grosse pushes the boundaries of space with her installations. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.0/10 - Popularity: 40% | Activity: 11% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Transformative Art Installations:** Katharina Grosse's installations provide opportunities for businesses to incorporate dynamic and interactive elements into their physical spaces. - **Unconventional Painting Mediums:** Businesses can explore the use of unconventional materials or mediums to create unique design elements that disrupt the norm. - **Colored Soil:** Incorporating colored soil into landscaping designs, particularly in urban environments, could provide a visually striking and eco-friendly solution for businesses. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Art and Design:** Exploring unconventional materials and techniques can lead to the development of new and innovative art installations. - **Architecture and Interior Design:** Using dynamic and interactive elements in physical spaces can create more engaging and memorable experiences for customers or visitors. - **Landscaping and Sustainable Design:** Using colored soil as a design element can create visually striking and sustainable solutions for urban environments and public spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Artful Soil-Bending Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/el-abrazo.md) - [Vibrantly Colorful Dynamic Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kayla-rumpp.md) - [Colorful Texture Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/colorscape-installation.md) - [Terracotta-Inspired Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grounded-exhibtion.md) - [Collaborative Monochromatic Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/collaborative-monochromatic-art-exhibition.md) - [Leftover Househouse Paint Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paint-drop.md) - [Drone-Assisted Landscape Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/katsu-1.md) - [Glass Beaded Intricate Artworks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/painting-exhibition.md) - [Climate-Awareness Soft Art Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dreamstones.md)
