# Electrified Urban Installations Artic Mass-Painting Inspires the Mind to Think Spatially By Amelia Roblin | Published 2011-09-05 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/artic-mass-painting References: [suckerpunchdaily](http://www.suckerpunchdaily.com/2011/08/23/artic-mass-painting/#more-15580) & [emergentarchitecture](http://www.emergentarchitecture.com/projects.php?id=37) Influenced by the tendencies of the human brain, the Artic Mass-Painting installation invites thoughtful consideration. Commissioned by the city of Anaheim, California, the Emergent design office strove to create a spellbinding sculpture that explored the relationship with object, perception and mental processing. This challenging task was enhanced with an additional layer of complexity, established through the integration of [two and three dimensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mathematically-shaped) which composed a complex architectural entity. The subject is an abstract mass that begins to dissolve and disintegrate while simultaneously asserting its existence, seeking to be mapped out in the mind. The [glowing pink veins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shapes-of-light) that cover Artic Mass-Painting are emitted by a system of [solar tape and OLED lighting film](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/michael-jantzen-2). The fibrous glowing pattern also indicates the intricate structure's lines of stress. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.2/10 - Popularity: 87% | Activity: 60% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Artificial Light Installations:** Opportunities exist to develop new and innovative ways to incorporate artificial lighting into urban installations that utilize renewable energy sources. - **Multidimensional Design:** Urban installations that incorporate two or more dimensions can provide new opportunities for creative expression and mental stimulation. - **Interactive Art Installations:** Connect technology with city installations to provide interactive experiences that encourage engagement and exploration. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Renewable Energy:** Renewable energy companies can explore opportunities to provide sustainable power for urban installations that require artificial lighting. - **Art and Design:** Art and design companies can incorporate multidimensional installations that incorporate technology into their portfolio. - **Tourism:** Cities can leverage interactive art installations to attract visitors and increase tourism revenue. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Unique Interactive Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-aurora.md) - [Interactive Mountain Oracles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/whispering-mountains.md) - [Immersive Light Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/psychoacoustic-light-ensemble.md) - [Inflatable Vibrant Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/forest-dancer.md) - [Intricate Lighting Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/objects-of-common-interest1.md) - [Concept-Driven Public Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ivan-toth-depea.md) - [Brain-Like Labyrinths](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brash-collective.md) - [Eclipse-Themed Rooftop Artworks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arc-zero.md) - [Monumental Air Installation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iwagumi-air-scape.md)
