Their [massive mural](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1) expands across 4,500 meters and covers the walls of a Swiss prison -- from exercise yards and hallways to stairwells and the prison's exterior facade. This large piece of prison art is colorful and lets inmates experience whimsical imagery. The goal for the artwork was to exceed the personal boundaries of each artist, while also altering the atmosphere of the prison. The [large blank walls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/humanise-wall) acted as a virgin canvas that was waiting to be utilized. The stunning outcome of the art has been published in a book format for consumers to purchase. The book is titled '4661m2: Art in Prison.' The book was an afterthought of the artists, but they hope that the inspiring imagery will encourage similar projects to unfold around the globe. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.9/10 - Popularity: 61% | Activity: 47% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Social Good](https://www.trendhunter.com/socialgood) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Prison Art:** Opportunity to utilize large blank walls in prisons as a canvas for colorful and inspiring artwork. - **Inmate Rehabilitation:** Using art projects to alter the atmosphere of prisons and exceed personal boundaries, providing therapeutic benefits for inmates. - **Publishing Art in Prisons:** Creating and selling books showcasing art created by inmates, allowing consumers to support and appreciate their work. ### Who This Affects Most - **Correctional Facilities:** Opportunity for prisons to implement art projects as a means of inmate rehabilitation and improving prison environments. - **Art and Culture:** Potential market for books, exhibitions, and art sales that feature prison art and aim to support incarcerated artists. - **Publishing Industry:** Opportunity for publishers to produce and distribute books featuring artwork created in prisons, showcasing the creativity and stories of inmates. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Mural Design Assistants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/art-by-squares.md) - [Statement Wall Covering Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/el-muro.md) - [Color-In Commuter Tunnels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/masterpeace-painting.md) - [Post-Pandemic Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lakwena-maciver.md) - [Collaborative Campus Beautification Programs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/campus-beautification.md) - [Toronto Art Wine Colllabs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-prisoner-wine-co-and-artist-justin-broadbent.md) - [Confectionary Graffiti Murals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jolly-rancher-gummie.md) - [Digital Graffiti NFTs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/graffiti-wall-collection.md) - [Global Pixel Canvas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wplace.md)
