Creating a [defensive facade](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bureau-des-mesarchitecture), the design studio gives this home protection from Singapore's noise pollution and from the sun's rays. The [shell-like facade](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fractal-facade-house) of the home is created to mimic the animal's skin that serves as its protection from threats. Located beside a busy intersection and highway, this residence is also directly exposed to the sun. The home is 2.5 storeys, housing most of its living spaces underground and shielding its inhabitants from the harsh noise factors challenging its site. Moreover, the home's upper levels are equipped with mechanical fans drawing air to the basement and protecting from extreme weather conditions. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.0/10 - Popularity: 18% | Activity: 4% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Animal-inspired Architecture:** Opportunity for architects to create unique and protective structures by taking inspiration from the natural world. - **Defensive Facades:** Opportunity to design innovative building facades that offer protection from external threats, such as noise pollution and extreme weather. - **Underground Living Spaces:** Opportunity to utilize underground space for residential living, offering protection from external factors and unique architectural features. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture:** Architects can incorporate innovative, animal-inspired designs and defensive facades into their projects to differentiate themselves and provide unique value to clients. - **Construction:** Builders can capitalize on the trend of underground living spaces to offer unique and protective residential structures to clients in challenging environments. - **Real Estate:** Developers can market animal-inspired homes and innovative, defensive facades as desirable and unique features to potential buyers, creating a competitive edge in the market. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Transparent Shell-Covered Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-brisa.md) - [Cave-Like Folded Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wild-house.md) - [Fish Lifestyle-Inspired Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-of-gills.md) - [Nature-Inspired Bungalow Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/maurpankhi.md) - [Living Landscape Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hedge-and-arbour-house.md) - [Steel Facade-Wrapped Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bomun-house.md) - [Sheep Wool-Insulated Guest Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-la-escocesa.md) - [Sculptural Facade Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fractal-facade-house.md) - [Snake-Resembling Sculptural Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chuzhi.md)
