If a person didn't know any better, they could easily mistake one or both of these chairs as artworks rather than functional pieces of furniture. Designed by Baltasar Portillo, an industrial designer born in El Salvador, the Armadillo and Lodge chairs bring to mind suspension bridges and the Eiffel Tower. Airy and light, the [latticed pattern](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/barred-collection) allows these two chairs to become part of their environment almost as much as they stand out since people can see through them. Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, the Armadillo and Lodge chairs are stunningly contemporary. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.6/10 - Popularity: 78% | Activity: 83% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Metal Latticed Furniture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore new ways to incorporate metal latticed patterns into furniture design, blurring the line between art and function. - **Sculptural Seating:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Combine elements of art, sculpture, and architecture in furniture design, creating visually striking and functional pieces. - **Contemporary Outdoor Furniture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop modern, lightweight outdoor furniture that seamlessly blends with its surroundings, appealing to design-conscious consumers. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Integrate artistic and architectural elements in furniture design, pushing the boundaries of creativity and functionality. - **Architecture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Collaborate with furniture designers to create architectural-inspired seating that can both enhance indoor spaces and elevate outdoor environments. - **Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Offer unique, contemporary furniture options for indoor and outdoor settings, catering to consumers seeking statement pieces that blend art and design. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Structurally Complex Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-arch-chair.md) - [Colorful Metal Outdoor Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cesto-chair.md) - [Sustainable Structural Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-limbo-chair.md) - [Sleek Steel Structural Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/combchair.md) - [Leather-Accented Industrial Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/l1-chair-from-object-leuci.md) - [Marbles-Inspired Intricate Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shepherd-studio.md) - [Geometric Flatpacked Wooden Armchairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sedia-tonda.md) - [Perforated Steel Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stamping-chair.md) - [Illusion Organic Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/siembra-capsule.md)
