# Barn-Inspired Homes The Ark House is the Pinnacle of Country Living By Alex Scott | Published 2010-04-22 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ark-house References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2010/04/21/ark-house-by-axis-mundi/) & [axismundi](http://www.axismundi.com/) In case you ever wanted to experience farm living without having to get up at 4 am to milk the cows, you need to take a gander (pun intended) at the Ark House. Though at first glance it actually does just look like a conventional barn, this abode is leaps and bounds ahead of your average horse shelter. The two peaks are connected by a long bridge with the main part of the house being in the furthest section, and it has three floors of modern living. The Ark House is the epitome of sustainable living. Featuring a geothermal heating system, which is a huge energy saver, and photovoltaic panels to meet the home's entire energy needs for the whole year, the house has almost no ecological footprint. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.0/10 - Popularity: 46% | Activity: 37% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Sustainable Living:** Opportunities for developing eco-friendly homes that reduce energy consumption and leave a minimal ecological footprint. - **Modern Barn Design:** Innovative designs that replicate the unique features of a barn but incorporate modern living concepts. - **Geothermal Heating Systems:** Advancements in geothermal technology that reduce energy consumption and offer eco-friendly heating options for homes. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture:** Architects and designers have the opportunity to create sustainable and modern homes that replicate rural living. - **Renewable Energy:** Renewable energy companies have the opportunity to provide geothermal heating systems that are eco-friendly and cost-effective. - **Real Estate:** The real estate industry has the opportunity to market sustainable and modern homes that offer unique design features and energy-saving technologies. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Architectural Archetype-Themed Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-r.md) - [Barn-Form Family Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twisted-house1.md) - [Unconventional Triangular Barnhouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dutch-barnhouse.md) - [Prefabricated Timber Barn Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/north-fork.md) - [Sustainable Country Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/three-oaks-farm.md) - [Barn-Inspired Timber Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-w-1.md) - [Corrugated Metal Barn-Like Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studioac.md) - [Scandinavian Barn Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-comet.md) - [Modern Vacation Barn Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/les-greniers-de-babel.md)
