# Built-In Divider Sleepers The Area Bed by Alain Gilles is Perfect for Open Space Homes By Meghan Young | Published 2012-10-30 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/area-bed References: [fubiz.net](http://www.fubiz.net/en/2012/10/29/area-bed/) & [alaingilles](http://www.alaingilles.com/) While the Area Bed can be used in any sleeping arrangement, it would be particularly suitable for an [open concept living space](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-cocoon) such as a loft or a studio apartment. That is because the Area Bed boasts a [built-in room divider](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arches-screen) that will separate the bed from the rest of the living area as well as provide a subtle bit of privacy. The 'room divider' may not reach that high, but it does offer a sense of separation, which is good for floorplans and mental stability. Conceived and created by Belgian designer Alain Gilles, the Area Bed is sleek and minimal, just like his past creations including the [Container Sideboard](http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/container-sideboard) and [BuzziHood](http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/buzzihood-by-alain-gilles). Designed for the luxury brand Magnitude, the Area Bed is fit for the sophisticated individual. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.6/10 - Popularity: 23% | Activity: 17% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Built-in Divider Sleepers:** Innovative bed designs with built-in room dividers offer privacy and separation in open concept living spaces. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Furniture manufacturers can capitalize on the demand for beds with built-in room dividers to cater to consumers living in open concept homes. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can incorporate beds with built-in room dividers to create functional and stylish living spaces. - **Real Estate Development:** Real estate developers can use beds with built-in room dividers as a selling point for open concept homes, attracting buyers looking for privacy and versatility. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Relaxing Dual Leg-Framed Beds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wabi-bed.md) - [Flexible Room Partition Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/room-partition-system.md) - [Rotating Panel Room Dividers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ro-room-dividers.md) - [Sliding Desk-Equipped Beds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/boomerang-bed.md) - [Motorized Sofa Wall Beds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tonale.md) - [Material-Centric Room Divider Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ren-series.md) - [Hidden Murphy Bed Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tonale-murphy-bed.md) - [Elegant Innovative Room Dividers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glimakra-of-sweden.md) - [Hemp Room Dividers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/breeze-divider.md)
