# Coin-Slot Car Ignitions This Arcade Car Can be Driven on Real Roads if you Have a Quarter By Megan Facciuolo | Published 2014-04-18 | Autos Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arcade-car References: [walyou](http://walyou.com/your-car-the-arcade-insert-coin-to-drive/) & [tofudriftvan](http://tofudriftvan.com/) Remember those virtual arcade cars and motorcycle racing games? If you do, you probably recall begging your parents for some extra quarters so you could play them and test out your driving skills. The guys at 'Tofu Drift Van' used those recollections as inspiration for their latest car module. The auto detailing company took an old [Mazda](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/torque-drift-2) Miata and added some arcade nostalgia to it. They modified the Mazda car to only start after a quarter has been inserted into the [arcade-style slot](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/licensing-agreement-with-hasbro) they installed in the dashboard. This fun concept actually adds an extra security measure on your car -- that is, if the robber doesn't carry quarters. The slot feature also could help you save up some extra gas money. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.5/10 - Popularity: 3% | Activity: 3% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Autos](https://www.trendhunter.com/autos) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Arcade-inspired Car Modules:** Exploring the incorporation of arcade-style elements into traditional cars for added nostalgia and functionality. - **Coin-slot Security Measures:** Using coin-slot ignition systems as a unique way to enhance car security. - **Gamification of Automobile Features:** Gamifying automobile experiences through the integration of arcade-inspired elements. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Auto Detailing:** Opportunity for auto detailing companies to offer unique, customized modifications incorporating arcade-style features. - **Automotive Security:** Potential for automotive security companies to develop coin-slot ignition systems as a novel approach to deterring car theft. - **Automobile Manufacturing:** Automobile manufacturers can explore the integration of gamified features in vehicles to enhance the overall driving experience. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Video Game-Inspired Vehicle Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mg-maze.md) - [In-Car Gaming Experiences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/atari-and-airconsole.md) - [Game Style Navigation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/need-for-speed-mini-map.md) - [In-Car Gaming Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/airconsole-1.md) - [Tabletop Coin Game](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-change-quarter-bouncing-game.md) - [Game-Inspired Electric Vehicles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/inception-ev.md) - [In-Car Gaming Experiences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bmw-2.md) - [Video Game-Themed Play Cars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rideon-racer.md) - [Gaming-Inspired Vehicle Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electric-subcompact-suv.md)
