# Water-Manipulating LED Lamps The 'Aquarius' Light Beautifully Fuses Art and Science By Stephen Co | Published 2017-11-13 | Unique Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aquarius-water-manipulating-fountain-lamp References: [kickstarter](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/northerncircuitsinc/aquarius-a-water-manipulating-fountain-lamp) Aquarius, the Water-Manipulating Fountain Lamp, can create the illusion of [water freezing in midair](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aqua-gallery), rising upwards, splitting off into multiple streams, changing colors and many more. By using a series of strobing LEDs shining against a vibrating stream of water, Aquarius can tap into the scientific principle of Persistence of Vision. What the user sees are snapshots of the water stream at various times, which when pieced together, give these impossible animation effects. Some of the more advanced patterns for Aquarius include simulating the Northern Lights, [Volcanic Lightning](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spacetime-transformation-lamp), Tropical Flair, Unicorn colors, and Chaos Theory (a seemingly random display of patterns). In addition, Aquarius was built to be fully programmable by the more adventurous users. It was created with the Arduino development environment so that users can plug it into their PC with a USB cable and program their own patterns. Aquarius is currently campaigning on [Kickstarter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/planto). It is looking to raise $22, 000 CAD in order to fund manufacturing and is already at $13,500 as of this post and only two days into its campaign. Once the campaign ends, and if it succeeds, the delivery of Aquarius is scheduled to start in April 2018. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.1/10 - Popularity: 77% | Activity: 97% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Unique](https://www.trendhunter.com/unique) > [Inventions](https://www.trendhunter.com/inventions) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Water-manipulating LED Lamps:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Creating unique lighting experiences and visual illusions for events, entertainment, and interior design. - **Artificial Water Animation:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Developing new ways to simulate water movement and create realistic visual effects in movies, video games, and virtual reality. - **Programmable Lighting:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Designing customizable lighting solutions for homes, offices, and public spaces that allow users to program their own patterns and color schemes. ### Where This Applies - **Lighting Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Applying water-manipulating LED technology to create innovative lighting designs for architectural projects, events, and art installations. - **Entertainment:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporating water-manipulating LED lamps in stage productions, concerts, and immersive experiences to add captivating visual elements. - **Consumer Electronics:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Integrating programmable lighting technology into smart home systems, creating personalized lighting experiences controlled by users. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Poetic Rippling Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yurameki.md) - [Math-Driven Lighting Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alba-light.md) - [Water-Based Entertainment Drones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arivia-watersurface-drone.md) - [Water-Powered Planter Smart Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/planto.md) - [3D-Printed Aquatic Life Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooj-design-wavy-lamp.md) - [Colourful Ambient Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ambient-lamp-design.md) - [Optical Illusion Humidifiers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/serena-antigravity-humidifier.md) - [AI Aquarium Water Changers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aquarium-water-changer.md) - [Rippling Aquatic Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pulse-lights.md)
