# Cantilevered Transparent Staircases The Aquarium Gleneagles Glass Stairs is a Spectacular Sight By Meghan Young | Published 2011-11-30 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aquarium-gleneagles-glass-stairs References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2011/11/28/cantilevered-glass-helical-staircase-by-diapo/) & [diapo](http://diapo.co.uk/news/diapo-spectacular-glass-staircase-aquarium-gleneagles.html) The Aquarium Gleneagles Glass Stairs shows just how much of an impact a sculptural staircase can have within a space. In this case, these stairs seem to be the main attraction as it circles a long, tubular aquarium. Since the actual stairs are made out of the same [glass that encases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glass-collection) the underwater wonders right next to it, there doesn't appear to be an end of beginning to each. Created by Diapo, a London-based staircase fabricator, the Aquarium Gleneagles Glass Stairs has a cantilevered, helical look that also sets it apart from other sculptural staircases. A lesson in [rural tranquillity](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glass-ridge), this aquarium and staircase is actually the centerpiece of a home, not a museum, gallery or other similar public space that it looks to be at first glance. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.4/10 - Popularity: 51% | Activity: 72% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Sculptural Staircases:** Businesses can create unique and visually stunning spaces, and attract customers through the installation of bespoke stairs with designs that give a strong first impression. - **Innovative Materials:** Opportunities exist in the manufacturing of stairs with bespoke materials like glass, acrylic and polished metal, that create elegant reflections and transparency. - **Combining Design Elements:** Incorporating different design elements like aquariums, waterfalls or hanging gardens with staircases can create dynamic and striking spaces, leading to new experiences for visitors. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture and Interior Design:** Leverage technology and advanced manufacturing to create designer staircases that join function and innovative aesthetics. - **Homebuilding:** Opportunities exist for builders and manufacturers to incorporate bespoke, unique features like stylish staircases in new builds and renovated homes to appeal to luxury homeowners and home buyers. - **Tourism:** Tourism, hospitality and entertainment industry can benefit from creating visually stunning and unique spaces, which showcase exquisite design features like aquarium staircases, as a big attraction to draw visitors. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Concrete Spiral Staircase Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cadenza.md) - [Sculptural Townhome Staircases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/atelier-pierre-thibault-1.md) - [Intricate Glass Whisky Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luminary-no2-rare-sculpture.md) - [Fish Tank-Inspired Japanese Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nao-iwanari.md) - [Glass Loop Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tide-stool.md) - [Remodelled Staircase-Centric Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cobalt-coach-house.md) - [Canyon Viewing Platforms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/72-turns.md) - [Dutch Barn Spiralled Staircase](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/julia-van-beuningen.md) - [Elevated Leisure Habitats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elevated-leisure-habitat.md)
