The program will see users sent genuine Apple tools and components that can be used to repair their devices instead of having to head for their nearest Genius Bar. The program will start with the [iPhone 12](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hardware-verifying) and [13](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portable-creative-tool) series smartphones, while the M1 Macs are expected to be incorporated soon. COO Jeff Williams commented on the new Apple Self Service Repair program in a release saying, "Creating greater access to Apple genuine parts gives our customers even more choice if a repair is needed. In the past three years, Apple has nearly doubled the number of service locations with access to Apple genuine parts, tools, and training, and now we’re providing an option for those who wish to complete their own repairs.” Image Credit: Apple ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.0/10 - Popularity: 30% | Activity: 50% | Freshness: 11% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **DIY Tech Repair:** Apple's Self Service Repair Program opens up opportunities for more manufacturers to create DIY repair programs that can increase customer loyalty. - **Genuine Parts Distribution:** The Apple Self Service Repair program sets a new standard for genuine parts distribution that requires manufacturers to develop reliable channels for distributing repair parts to customers. - **Digital Product Manuals:** As more consumers opt for self-service repairs, there is a growing need for more intuitive digital product manuals that can provide step-by-step instructional guides for product repairs. ### Where This Applies - **Consumer Electronics:** The self-service repair trend revolutionizes the consumer electronics industry by creating more affordable and accessible repair options for customers. - **Automotive:** The Apple Self Service Repair program serves as an innovative blueprint for the automotive industry, which can benefit from creating DIY repair programs that empower customers and extend product lifespan. - **Home Appliances:** As consumers seek more affordable repair options, home appliance manufacturers can leverage the self-service repair trend to create more customer-centric repair programs that promote product longevity. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Self-Repair Program Expansions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/m1.md) - [Self-Repair Smartphone Programs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/samsung-selfrepair-program.md) - [Collaboration Technology Repair Programs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/samsung-self-repair-program.md) - [Self-Repair Assistance App](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/self-repair-assistant.md) - [Hardware-Verifying Features](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hardware-verifying.md) - [Self-Repair Tech Platforms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/selfrepair-tech-platform.md) - [Repairable Mobile Phones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/repairable-iphone-backplate.md) - [AI-Powered Tech Repair Assistants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ifixit-fixbot.md) - [Mobile Phone Repair Initiatives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pixel-phone-repair.md)
