# Apple-Inspired Music Storage The Real-Life iShelf Mimics iTunes' Album Navigation By TrendHead | Published 2009-01-22 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apple-inspired-designs-the-ishelf-by-li-jianye References: [geeky-gadgets](http://www.geeky-gadgets.com/?p=9511) & [labexp.blogspot](http://labexp.blogspot.com/2008/12/ishelf.html) The iShelf is a cool--although very nerdy--[CD show piece](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orion-cd-player) designed to show off your cds in the same way your [iTunes program](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shelf-app) lets you flick through your [album collection](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aurala120a). I must admit it looks great. Unfortunately, the iShelf only lets you have 5 CDs on show at a time, which doesn’t really do my collection any good. If you have some kind of house rule wherein you are only allowed to play five CDs a week, the iShelf might be a cool feature for your home. The iShelf is designed by Li Jianye. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 11% | Activity: 15% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Virtual Music Libraries:** Innovations in virtual music libraries that enable easy browsing of one's music collection can be improved by incorporating the ability to view a larger selection of music. - **Smart Home Display Furniture:** As smart homes become more mainstream, there is an opportunity to create furniture that displays technology and doubles as decor, like the iShelf. - **Personalized Home Goods:** Products that cater to individual preferences, like music genre, could be popular in the future of personalized home goods for tech-savvy consumers. ### Who This Affects Most - **Music Technology:** Companies involved in music technology can improve virtual music libraries with innovations showcased in the iShelf design. - **Smart Home:** Smart home industry players could benefit from incorporating decor that displays technology, like the iShelf, into their product lines. - **Home Decor:** Innovative home decor companies can incorporate technology into their designs, as seen with the iShelf, to cater to tech-savvy consumers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Vinyl Storage Shelving Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-toneoptic-rpm.md) - [Aesthetically Pleasing CD Players](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modern-cd-player.md) - [Retro Music Device-Inspired Mirrors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drought.md) - [Dynamic Storage-Display Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shelf-life.md) - [Retro-Inspired 3D-Printed Storage](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/macintosh-studio.md) - [Minimalist CD Player Peripherals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tinyl-cover.md) - [Hidden Computer Storage Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twelve-south-backpack.md) - [Modern Digital Art Displays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tuneshine.md) - [Transparent Audio CD Players](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clearframe-cd.md)
