# Meteorological Mobile Sensors New Patents Regarding Apple Environmental Sensors Increase Awareness By Alyson Wyers | Published 2014-04-24 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apple-environmental-sensors References: [techcrunch](http://techcrunch.com/2014/04/24/apple-working-on-new-environmental-sensors-for-mobile-devices/) & [appleinsider](http://appleinsider.com/articles/14/04/24/future-apple-devices-may-boast-environmental-sensor-suite-with-built-in-thermometer) According to some patents found by AppleInsider, [Apple](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apple-watch-series-8) environmental sensors could be coming to your next [iPhone](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apple-1) or even iWatch. This means future mobile devices from Apple could be able to detect humidity, atmospheric pressure and temperature data. One patent in particular describes a sensor that measures not just these environmental aspects, but sound as well. This same patent also features a function for sound input, while another has a button for temperature reading. These Apple environmental sensors make mobile devices more aware of their surroundings. While existing [iPhones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apple-ipro) already have a microphone, the mics are not yet equipped to gather environmental information. This would come in handy not just for weather determination, but in collecting data about the user as well. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.6/10 - Popularity: 27% | Activity: 44% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Mobile](https://www.trendhunter.com/mobile) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Environmental Sensor Integration:** Mobile devices integrating environmental sensors for improved awareness of surroundings and user data collection. - **Mobile Meteorology:** Using mobile devices as meteorological sensors for gathering atmospheric data on-the-go. - **Sound Sensor Advancement:** Advancements in sound sensor technology for mobile devices to measure environmental acoustics and user audio input. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Mobile Technology:** Mobile technology companies can integrate environmental sensors to improve user experience and data collection. - **Weather Forecasting:** Weather forecasting companies can incorporate mobile meteorology data for more accurate and up-to-date weather predictions. - **Acoustic Engineering:** Acoustic engineering companies can develop and improve sound sensor technology for enhanced user experiences and environmental data collection. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Environment Monitor Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sense1.md) - [Mobile Mental Health Assessments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apple-health.md) - [Advanced Smartwatch Models](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apple-watch-series-8.md) - [Connected Environmental Sensor Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/switchbot-meter-pro.md) - [Accessible Environment Sensors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-temperature-and-humidity-monitor-3-mini.md) - [Environment-Analyzing Home Sensors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ultrahuman-home.md) - [Indoor Air Quality Sensors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/indoor-air-quality.md) - [Indoor Air-Analyzing Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/amazon-smart-air-quality-monitor.md) - [Connected Air Quality Monitors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iaq-air-quality-monitor.md)
