# Apocalyptic Architecture The Endangered Seed Archive Looks Like An Ice Palace By Elsa Blaine | Published 2008-12-11 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apocalyptic-inspired-architecture-endangered-seed-archive-by-brittany-bell References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2008/12/10/seed-archive-by-brittany-bell/#more-21701) Student designer Brittany Bell wanted to create a building where potentially endangered plant “seeds will be stored in the event of a future apocalypse.” She designed this conceptual structure to imitate the [architecture of a growing plant](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-leaves). In essence, the building is alive and [adjusts itself to weather conditions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drop-pod), sunshine and the growth of large trees. Although this may all seem far-out to most of us, it is the visualization and imagination of young artists such as Bell that lead us to future innovations. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.7/10 - Popularity: 65% | Activity: 69% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Apocalyptic Architecture:** Creating architectural structures that can adapt to changing environmental conditions and preserve valuable resources during a future apocalypse. - **Endangered Seed Archive:** Developing secure storage facilities that can safeguard and preserve plant seeds in the event of ecological disasters or the threat of extinction. - **Conceptual Structure:** Exploring innovative building designs that mimic the growth and adaptive qualities of living organisms. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture:** An opportunity for architects and designers to develop sustainable and adaptable structures that can withstand extreme conditions and protect valuable resources. - **Seed Conservation:** A chance for seed banks, botanical gardens, and agricultural industries to innovate in preserving and safeguarding plant biodiversity in the face of potential global crises. - **Art and Design:** An avenue for artists and designers to push the boundaries of creativity and explore futuristic concepts that inspire practical innovations in architecture and sustainability. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Plant-Filled Latticed Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/touching-eden-house.md) - [Science-Backed Wooden Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seed-stories.md) - [Spiralled Roof Horticultural Centers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-leaf-1.md) - [Living Structure-Based Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/canada-pavilion.md) - [Organic Spiral Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pasona-natureverse-pavilion.md) - [Sustainable Visitor Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/green-arc.md) - [Plant-Based Guesthouse Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rooted-potential.md) - [Sustainable Alien Planet Colonies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/colony-concept.md) - [Barcon-Negative Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/picoplanktonics.md)
