# Pancake Pendant Lamps The Aplomb Large Light Is Seemingly Impossibly Made from Ultra-Thin Concrete By Amelia Roblin | Published 2016-10-11 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aplomb References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/super-thin-concrete-lamp-foscarini/) & [foscarini](http://www.foscarini.com/us//en/lamps/suspension.html) At first glace, would you have been able to guess that the Aplomb Large lamp is made from concrete? Probably not. The manufacturing technique behind this [suspended ceiling light](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nova-light) is a highly specialized one that results in an unlikely lampshade that's less delicate than you might expect. Studio Lucidi & Pevere has designed this light fixture as a companion to its first Aplomb lamp, which takes an entirely different shape. This new [Foscarini](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foscarini-lava-lamps) product is as flat as a plate for the most minimalist profile one can imagine. The material has been cast such that it retains its porous texture and expresses one of three earthy hues to suit its intended contemporary interior. The Aplomb discus is fitted with an LED light source within its [slim design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foreshadow-table-lamp), illuminating in a much wider field than it assumes itself. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.7/10 - Popularity: 77% | Activity: 55% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Concrete Lighting:** The use of concrete in lighting fixtures offers a disruptive innovation opportunity for the interior design industry. - **Minimalist Lighting:** The emergence of minimalist lighting presents a disruptive innovation opportunity for the lighting industry. - **LED Lighting:** The increasing popularity of LED lighting creates a disruptive innovation opportunity for the lighting industry. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** The interior design industry can benefit from incorporating concrete lighting fixtures into contemporary spaces. - **Lighting:** The lighting industry can capitalize on the trend of minimalist and LED lighting fixtures. - **Construction Materials:** The use of concrete in lighting fixtures paves the way for innovative developments in the construction materials industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Organically Shaped Shadow Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loops-lamp.md) - [Sculptural 3d-Printed Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/souffl-lamp.md) - [Maximalist Arched Pendant Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oblure.md) - [Minimally Designed Ethereal Pendants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lightmass.md) - [Conical Crossed Pendant Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cross-pendant-lamp.md) - [Floating Illusion Light Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lp-lamp.md) - [Mixed Material Pendant Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gant-pendant-lights.md) - [Origami-Inspired Suspended Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sora-pendant-light.md) - [Minimal Aesthetic Light Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flat-light.md)
