# Intricate Terracotta Facades 'Apartment in Binh Thanh' Features a Detailed Red Exterior By Joey Haar | Published 2017-04-19 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apartment-in-binh-thanh References: [dezeen](https://www.dezeen.com/2017/04/19/apartment-binh-thanh-sda-patterned-terracotta-facade-sanuki-daisuke-architects-ho-chi-mihn-city-vietnam/) & [sanukiar](http://www.sanukiar.com/) 'Apartment in Binh Thanh,' a newly designed apartment block in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, has a striking appearance courtesy of a [terracotta screen](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iztapalapa-pilares-community-center) that is made from several intricate, tessellating patterns. Built by Sanuki Daisuke Architects, Apartment in Binh Thanh also features a [verdant garden courtyard](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sanctum-house) in its interior. The apartment block is named after the Ho Chi Minh neighborhood in which it sits, though it stands out from many of the other buildings in the area. The terracotta facade is the most distinguishing aspect of the design, though it was chosen for more than just its aesthetics. Terracotta is relatively inexpensive, and the [screened facade](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bureau-des-mesarchitecture) provides more efficient cooling during the sweltering hot season in Ho Chi Minh. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.3/10 - Popularity: 54% | Activity: 6% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Intricate Terracotta Facades:** The use of intricate and patterned terracotta facades in building design for both functionality and aesthetics. - **Garden Courtyards in Urban Architecture:** The inclusion of verdant garden courtyards in the design of urban buildings for environmental benefits and visual appeal. - **Tessellation in Architectural Facade Design:** The use of tessellation and intricate patterning in architectural facade design for a unique and visually interesting appearance. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture and Design:** Innovative use of materials and design elements such as tessellation and verdant gardens to create more environmentally-friendly and aesthetically pleasing buildings. - **Construction and Infrastructure:** The integration of new design trends in building facades and interiors to improve energy efficiency and reduce costs. - **Real Estate Development:** The use of unique and innovative design features such as intricate terracotta facades and garden courtyards to differentiate buildings and attract potential buyers or tenants. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Multigenerational Brick Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/terracotta-breath-house.md) - [Terracotta Pot-Inspired Vietnam Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/earthenware-house.md) - [Geometric Cave-Like Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cavelike-homes.md) - [Gridded Screen Apartment Blocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/residential-building-1.md) - [Perforated Brickwork Office Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/premier-office.md) - [Modern Vietnamese Dwellings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tien-giang-house.md) - [Perforated Brick Wall Workshops](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/terra-cotta-workshop.md) - [Copper-Accented Apartment Blocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fenwick-st.md) - [Oversized Roof Vietnamese Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-quang-yen.md)
