Despite many educational residences deterring students from cooking food in their units, the '[Nano Studio](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nano-micro-house)' is a micro apartment design that's intended to encourage this and more. Created by the [University of British Columbia](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/research-centre), the 'Nano Studio' apartment is a prototype housing design that's intended to give students access to [affordable housing](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tiny-house-1).

The 140-square-foot micro apartment is indeed tiny, but gives students all their own amenities including a bed, desk, cooking area and three-piece washroom. The bed folds up to reveal a desk to help utilize the space more efficiently.

As urban real estate reaches all-time peaks, the 'Nano Studio' micro apartment design shows what could be in store for future student housing, but that could also work for traditional residents too.
