# Anti-Gravity Sports Anvil Shooting May Just Be the Most Redneck Sport in the World By Jacqueline Parrish | Published 2009-10-22 | Unique Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/anvil-shooting References: [telegraph](http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/6396886/Anvil-shooting-the-worlds-strangest-sport.html) & [ncollier](http://www.ncollier.com/anvils.htm) In the whole wide weird world of sports, none are more bizarre than the sport that is known as anvil shooting. The objective is to launch the notoriously [weighty chunk of metal](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/worlds-heaviest-billboard) as high in the air as possible. It does not take the IQ of Einstein for one to see the major problem with blowing a metal object that weighs several tonnes hundreds of feet into the air because, as the Allan Parsons Project so cleverly stated, “what goes up, must come down.” I wonder exactly how the anvil shooting society (if there is one) tackles that unfortunate force known as gravity? Of anvil shooting, one champion had this to say: “People talk about the joy of sex, but it don’t last like the joy of [shooting anvils](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/skyward-masters).” I’m going to take his word for it. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.4/10 - Popularity: 34% | Activity: 91% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 90% men, 10% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Unique](https://www.trendhunter.com/unique) > [Bizarre](https://www.trendhunter.com/bizarre) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Extreme Sports:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in protective sports gear and manufacturing special equipment - **Unconventional Competitions:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in event management and digital marketing - **Novelty Sports:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in creating and marketing unique sports experiences ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Sports Gear:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in protective gear development and marketing - **Event Management:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in organizing and hosting unconventional sporting events - **Digital Media:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in promoting and broadcasting novelty sports on social media and other digital channels ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Record-Breaking Skate Megaramps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/red-bulls-building-drop.md) - [Street Pole Vault Competitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/street-pole-vault-competition.md) - [3D-Printed Sports Balls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wilson-sports-goods-co.md) - [Football-Style Bowling Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/triumph-fowling-set.md) - [Boozy Backyard Games](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/beer-darts.md) - [Storytelling Drone Experiences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/antigravity-drones.md) - [Exclusivity-Challenging Golf Events](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/golf-town.md) - [Realistic Archery Simulators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wonder-fitter-smart-archery-and-shooting.md) - [Ultra-Heavy Billboard Activations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/worlds-heaviest-billboard.md)
