# Massive Indoor Treehouses 'Another Primitive Hut' is Based on an 18th Century Design Concept By Joey Haar | Published 2016-11-29 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/another-primitive-hut References: [dezeen](https://www.dezeen.com/2016/11/28/indoor-treehouse-bureau-spectacular-laugier-primitive-hut/) & [bureau-spectacular.net](http://bureau-spectacular.net/page-a/) California design and architecture studio [Bureau Spectacular's](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thrse) 'Another Primitive Hut' is what the architects envision an indoor treehouse to be. The massive wooden structure is propped up on stilts to create a self-supported loft room inside of an apartment -- assuming that apartment has enough space to contain it. The indoor treehouse is a reference to a design from 18th century architectural philosopher Marc-Antoine Laugier. He believed that, as opposed to the baroque tendencies of his era, architecture should return to natural, functional roots. He titled this concept 'Primitive Hut,' hence the name for Bureau Spectacular's prototype. Another Primitive Hut is built entirely from [plain, unvarnished wood](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sawmill-treehouse), which is a reference to the naturalism that Laugier espoused. There are also simple, functional shelving units and storage cubbies throughout the loft area. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.1/10 - Popularity: 93% | Activity: 82% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Indoor Treehouse Designs:** Opportunity for architects and designers to create innovative indoor treehouse designs that blur the line between nature and architecture. - **Return to Naturalism:** Potential for a trend in architecture that embraces natural materials and functional design inspired by the concept of 'Primitive Hut.' - **Functional Shelving Solutions:** Demand for simple and functional storage solutions within living spaces, like the shelving units and storage cubbies in Another Primitive Hut. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture and Design:** Architects and designers can explore indoor treehouse designs and the concept of naturalism for residential and commercial projects. - **Furniture and Home Decor:** Opportunity for furniture and home decor industries to create functional shelving solutions that blend seamlessly into modern interiors. - **Residential Real Estate:** Real estate developers can consider incorporating indoor treehouse elements and functional shelving solutions to differentiate their properties. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Vaulted Structural Telescopic Treehouse](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/artistree-home.md) - [Cartoonish Tubular Treehouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tubular-treehouse.md) - [Modern Rounded Treehouse Pods](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/burl-treehouse.md) - [Nature-Immersive Tranquil Resorts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/treehouse-villas.md) - [Repurposed Wooden Shoreside Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tree-house-by-the-lake.md) - [Contemporary Conservationist Treehouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sylvascope-treehouse.md) - [Olive Tree-Centric Wooden Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twentieth-house.md) - [Elevated Treetop Modern Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/buitenverblijf-nest.md) - [Hidden Garden Timber Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-room-around-a-tree.md)
