# Circus-Themed Lighting The Harlekiini Lamp by Anna Palomaa is Fit for a Carnival By Meghan Young | Published 2014-12-18 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/anna-palomaa References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/new-designs-maija-puoskari-anna-palomaa/) & [annapalomaa](http://www.annapalomaa.com/Harlekiini-2014) The Harlekiini Lamp by Anna Palomaa, a Finnish industrial designer who is based in Helsinki, may be very [minimalist](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-lighting-design), but it has a distinct point of inspiration. Taking after circuses, which is a common theme throughout some of Anna Palomaa's latest designs, it takes on the shape of a [playful cone](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/air-balloon-lamp), which is reminiscent of clowns from yore. Although this isn't the most standout design from Anna Palomaa's [lighting collection](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-lighting-design), there is something to be said for its subtle nature and versatile existence. Finished with an on/off switch that comes in the form of a chain with a fun ball at the end, the Harlekiini Lamp brings an unexpected touch to homes and even offices. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.2/10 - Popularity: 55% | Activity: 34% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Minimalist Lighting Designs:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create minimalist lighting designs inspired by unconventional themes. - **Playful Cone Shapes:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporate playful cone shapes into various products beyond lighting. - **Subtle and Versatile Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop subtle and versatile home decor items with unexpected touches for modern spaces. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Integrate circus-themed lighting and other unconventional designs into interior design products. - **Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Expand the range of home decor items to include playful cone shapes and whimsical motifs. - **Lighting Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore the use of minimalist designs and surprising elements in lighting design. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Suspended Halo Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lamplox-minimalist-floor-lamp.md) - [Astro-Inspired Sculptural Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elara-suspension.md) - [Minimalist 3D-Printed Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/3dprinted-lamp1.md) - [Hat-Like Fabric Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flying-lamp.md) - [Archetypal Conical Light Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fragile-lamp.md) - [Calming Orb Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orb-lamp1.md) - [Enchanting Hanging Pendant Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hf-series.md) - [Japanese Lantern-Inspired Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/madco.md) - [Three-in-One Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bell-lamp.md)
