# Cutout Animal Cards These Cutout Animal Silhouettes are Photographed with Natural Backdrops By David Ingram | Published 2015-10-13 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/animal-silhouettes References: [mymodernmet](http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/nikolai-tolsty-animal-paper-cutouts) & [instagram](https://instagram.com/n_tolstyh/) Artist Nikolai Tolsty creates elegant animal silhouettes out of [pieces of paper](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/saori-matsushita) and frames them against nature-inspired backdrops. Various animals are outlined and cut from pieces of white paper so only their basic silhouette remains. Tolsty then takes his animal silhouettes and places them against [natural elements](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/untamed-nature) to create an interesting mixture of texture and color to each piece. Orange autumn leaves are transformed into the fur of a fox, yellow flowers form the spots of an African giraffe and the careful placement of tree bark and moss forms the horns and body of a wild elk. Although it may at first glance be simple, these paper cutouts of animals by the artist show a careful consideration for contrasting mediums between empty space and mother nature. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.5/10 - Popularity: 61% | Activity: 7% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Nature-inspired Cutout Art:** Combine the elegance of animal silhouettes with natural elements to create visually captivating artwork. - **Contrasting Mediums in Art:** Explore the artistic potential of juxtaposing empty space with nature's textures and colors. - **Minimalist Animal Silhouettes:** Capture the essence of various animals by reducing them to their basic form, creating intriguing visual compositions. ### Who This Affects Most - **Art and Design:** Artists can experiment with cutout techniques and nature-inspired backdrops to create unique and visually striking pieces. - **Home Decor:** Home decor companies can incorporate nature-inspired cutout art into their product offerings, allowing customers to bring the beauty of the outdoors inside. - **Photography:** Photographers can explore the art of capturing animal silhouettes against natural backdrops, creating stunning visuals and unique compositions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Paper Curvature Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paper-curves.md) - [Sculptural Paper Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fragmenti.md) - [Striking Urban Wildlife Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clare-allin.md) - [3-D Card Kits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/6-popup-animal-cards-to-make.md) - [Wildlife Awareness Games](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/animal-cards.md) - [Stunning Origami Portraits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/origami-portaits.md) - [Geometric Wooden Art Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aleph-geddis.md) - [Hand-Painted Wallpaper Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sylvan.md) - [Sculptural Mixed-Media Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folded-echoes.md)
