# Animal Movement Eco-Art Recycled Mixed-Media Sculptures That Capture Animals in Action By Alex Covert | Published 2009-02-07 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/animal-movement-junk-art-mary-engels-scultpures References: [urlesque](http://www.urlesque.com/2009/02/06/mary-engels-big-art-farm/) & [maryengel.net](http://www.maryengel.net) Mary Engel specializes in [bronze and mixed media sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folded-echoes). And by mixed media, I mean random junk--you know, little figurines and toys that your grandmother might have sitting out or that your kids beg you for in that cursed impulse-buying section of the grocery store right before you check out. Anyway, Engel takes her medium and shapes it into sculptures of dogs, cats and horses (I think... I’m not sure. There may have even been a goat in there). “My sculptural goal is to capture an animal’s gesture or movement,” she says. Unique. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.0/10 - Popularity: 82% | Activity: 59% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Eco-art:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create new art forms by transforming recycled materials into sculptures. - **Mixed Media Sculptures:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore the use of unconventional materials to create captivating sculptures. - **Animal Movement:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop sculptures that accurately capture and depict the movement and gestures of animals. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Integrate sustainable practices and recycled materials into traditional art forms. - **Recycling:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore innovative ways to repurpose and upcycle various materials. - **Sculpture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Combine traditional sculpting techniques with unconventional materials to create unique and visually captivating artworks. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Artful Bronze Horse Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/deborah-butterfield-1.md) - [Striking Urban Wildlife Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clare-allin.md) - [Glamorous Artful Bronze Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sweet-jane.md) - [Folk Creature Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fibredog.md) - [Sophisticated Upcycled Home Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/basket-sculptures.md) - [Luxury Fashion Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luxury-fashion-sculpture.md) - [Insect-Inspired Bronze Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/insect-bronze-sculptures.md) - [Resin Hardware Revivals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/meta-hardware.md) - [Sculptural Mixed-Media Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folded-echoes.md)
