# Rorschach Test Skulls Andy Gilmore Illustrations Analyze the Darker Side of Life By Meghan Young | Published 2009-10-13 | Pop Culture Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/andy-gilmore-illustrations References: [todayandtomorrow.net](http://www.todayandtomorrow.net/2009/10/13/skulls/) & [birdbrid](http://www.birdbrid.com/) Dubbed the ‘birdman,’ I think I should rechristen him the ‘skullman’ by the look of these Andy Gilmore illustrations. Earlier this year, Trend Hunter featured his [geometric collection](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/illusion-box), and now just in time for [Halloween](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/barossa-ink-shiraz), I bring to you his darker works. Reminiscent of the famous [Inkblot tests](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/what-are-you-looking-at), the Andy Gilmore illustrations utilize a unique drawing technique. To lessen the maniacal nature of his work, I have also included some of his bird illustrations in the gallery. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.0/10 - Popularity: 48% | Activity: 33% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Pop Culture](https://www.trendhunter.com/popculture) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Geometric Illustrations:** Exploring the growing trend of geometric illustrations as a method of self-expression and artistic exploration. - **Dark Art:** Examining the rising popularity of dark and macabre artwork as a reflection of society's fascination with the unknown and the darker side of life. - **Psychological Art:** Analyzing the emergence of art that delves into the human psyche, offering unique insights and provoking thought-provoking discussions. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Art and Design:** Exploring the disruptive innovation opportunities within the art and design industry, as artists push boundaries and challenge traditional norms. - **Entertainment and Media:** Identifying opportunities for disruptive innovation in the entertainment and media industry through the incorporation of dark and psychological elements in various forms of content. - **Mental Health and Therapy:** Highlighting the potential for disruptive innovation in the mental health and therapy industry by utilizing art as a tool for self-expression, exploration, and healing. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Warped Dynamic New-Gen Eyewear](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vern-morph-and-form.md) - [Stunning Origami Portraits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/origami-portaits.md) - [Personality-Based Art Generators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/soulgem.md) - [Limited Humorous Art Prints](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/david-shrigley-1.md) - [Surreal Love-Themed Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/joakim-ojanen.md) - [Artful Suspended Fashion Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/invisible-figures.md) - [Iconic Pop Art Skateboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/skateroom-x-andy-warhol-foundation.md) - [Illusion-Inspired Design Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ripples-collection.md) - [Artful Wooden Furniture Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knowledge-of-all-dark-things.md)
