This technique creates a simple, yet suggestive border between recognizable shapes and the images contained within them. One illustration takes on a particular [macabre atmosphere](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1) as our attention encompasses the crimson skies in the background and then focuses in on the shadowy character centered in the portrait. The [contrast in colors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/profiles-in-color) between figure and background draws the viewer's attention to the outlined characters with an energetic vibe. Rather than drawing intricate details to illustrate facial expressions, Andrew Pommier turns to theme and energy to infuse his characters with emotions. The figure whose face is obscured by a cascade of brown hair suggests a shy and repressed temper.
