# Simple Cantilevered Seating Andrew Cheng's Spring Stool and Chair Makes a Minimalist Statement By Meghan Young | Published 2015-05-20 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/andrew-cheng References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/andrew-chengs-spring-chair-stool-collection/) & [andrewchengdesign](http://www.andrewchengdesign.com/) Andrew Cheng has designed a couple new seats that appear to defy the laws of physics in a very subtle way. Taking on the form of both [a stool and chair](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/metal-stool-1), the furniture pieces adhere to a [cantilevered framework](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pere-chair) that brings a bit of edgy personality to the otherwise minimalist design. Available in various colors, Andrew Cheng ensures that the seats -- which are dubbed Spring -- provide a sense of serenity in whatever space they inhabit. From cool greys to natural wood, the Spring collection matches the relaxing hues with a comfortable perch that is full of [soft curves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/calma-lounge-by-layer). They would be perfect for not only the home, but a studio or even laid-back office. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.3/10 - Popularity: 19% | Activity: 42% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Cantilevered Furniture:** The design of cantilevered furniture presents an opportunity for disruptive innovation in the furniture industry, allowing for minimalist and unique designs. - **Minimalist Design:** The trend of minimalist design opens up opportunities for disruptive innovation in various industries, such as interior design, home decor, and architecture. - **Comfortable Perch:** The emphasis on providing a comfortable perch in furniture design creates disruptive innovation opportunities in the ergonomic furniture industry. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture Design:** The cantilevered framework in furniture design presents an opportunity for disruptive innovation in creating visually striking and functional furniture pieces. - **Interior Design:** The trend of minimalist design in interior design offers opportunities for disruptive innovation in creating clean, clutter-free spaces. - **Ergonomic Furniture:** The focus on creating a comfortable perch in furniture design promotes disruptive innovation in the ergonomic furniture industry, providing innovative solutions for better sitting experiences. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Structurally Complex Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-arch-chair.md) - [Ultra-Minimal Stool Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sedeo-chair.md) - [Simplistic Seating Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hipstool.md) - [Dynamic Structural Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foldont-chair.md) - [Circular Modernist Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zerogravity-chair.md) - [Ultra-Chic Minimalist Seating Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-seating-design.md) - [Rock Climbing-Inspired Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cling-stool.md) - [Modular Workspace Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/versatile-stool-design.md) - [Naturalistic Grass-Inspired Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-flip-chair.md)
