Myers. The Toronto-based artist's work is packed full of [pop culture references](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/louis-vuitton-octopus) and [nostalgic childhood images](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/back-to-basics-ii) and objects, with an intelligent (and often dark or unexpected) twist. Things that were once deemed innocent play things, like Nintendo games, a Rubik's cube and a game of Twister take on real life adult themes, as the photographs show Mario and Luigi kissing and a couple taking things to the "next step" on a Twister mat. Myers' work also reflects social movements and events, and comments on North American life with images of a broken "I Love New York" mug, and a row of VHS videotapes lined up like dominos. Feed the pop culture fiend within, and check out the fantastic and powerful [dark pop art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/joopiter) of Andrew B. Myers. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.3/10 - Popularity: 89% | Activity: 93% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Naughty](https://www.trendhunter.com/naughty) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Dark Pop Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Exploring new artistic mediums and techniques to create thought-provoking and edgy pieces of dark pop art. - **Nostalgia-inspired Photography:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporating nostalgic elements and childhood references into photography to evoke emotion and create a sense of connection with the audience. - **Social Commentary Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Using art to make bold statements and critique societal issues, encouraging dialogue and awareness. ### Where This Applies - **Art and Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Embracing unconventional art forms and pushing the boundaries of traditional art to create unique and provocative pieces. - **Advertising and Marketing:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Leveraging dark pop art to create eye-catching and memorable advertising campaigns that resonate with consumers. - **Entertainment and Media:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Collaborating with dark pop artists to produce visually stunning and thought-provoking content for movies, TV shows, and music videos. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Apocalypse Post Pandemic Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/contemporary-urban-art.md) - [Pop Art Legend-Honoring Dolls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/keiichi-tanaami-1.md) - [Digital Archetype Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/christian-rex-van-minnen-1.md) - [Deconstructed Pop Art NFTs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/matt-gondek.md) - [Pop Art-Style Blocked Portraits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-in-red.md) - [Surreal Love-Themed Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/joakim-ojanen.md) - [Public Art Displays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paul-anthony-smith.md) - [Boundary-Pushing Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/briony-douglas-1.md) - [Statement Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1.md)
