# Sweeping Sculptural Staircases This Loft by Amore Architects Offers a Dramatic Undulating Stairway By Tiffany | Published 2014-02-26 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/amore-architects References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2014/02/22/sculptural-staircase-twists-through-loft-apartment-in-melbourne-by-adrian-amore-architects/) & [aaarchitects.au](http://www.aaarchitects.com.au/) Local Australian architectural and design firm [Adrian Amore Architects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/copper-bottom) has designed the interiors of a 90s apartment in Melbourne, Australia. The building was formerly used as a butter factory until it was turned into apartments. The home was designed for an investor who wanted to live in a modern yet simple space. The result: the architects removed a steel beam that went across the center of the interiors and replaced the roof to create supplementary rooms. The main centerpiece of the home is the large white, [sculptural staircase](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cadenza) that climbs from the ground up through the center of the [loft apartment](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gowanus-loft). The staircase was made from steel and was covered with plaster and plywood. "I wanted to dramatize the form of the stair, to give it more movement than a conventional circular stair, almost as though it had been pulled or stretched at its mid point," says Amore of Adrian Amore Architects. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.1/10 - Popularity: 53% | Activity: 31% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Sculptural Staircases:** Architects are finding new ways to elevate the design of staircases, turning them into centerpieces of modern homes with dramatic curves and unique materials. - **Roof Replacements:** As older buildings are being repurposed into modern living spaces, architects are using creative roof replacements to create more usable areas and unique designs. - **Loft Apartments:** As more people choose to live in urban areas, loft apartments are becoming increasingly popular, providing a modern, spacious living experience in the heart of the city. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture and Design:** Architecture and design firms have opportunities to innovate with sculptural staircases, roof replacements, and loft apartments, creating unique and modern living spaces for urban dwellers. - **Construction:** The construction industry can embrace the trend of sculptural staircases and innovative roof replacements, using new materials and techniques to build functional yet visually stunning homes and apartments. - **Real Estate:** Real estate professionals can promote the benefits of loft apartments and unique design elements like sculptural staircases and roof replacements to appeal to urban homebuyers looking for modern and luxurious living spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sculptural Townhome Staircases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/atelier-pierre-thibault-1.md) - [Sculptural Staircase Penthouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/frederic-chopin.md) - [Remodelled Staircase-Centric Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cobalt-coach-house.md) - [Dutch Barn Spiralled Staircase](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/julia-van-beuningen.md) - [Light-Filled Alpine Lofts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/omarama-attic.md) - [Renovated Victorian Toronto Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flow-house.md) - [Renovated Compact Loft Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vessel-project.md) - [Bathroom-Centric Dubai Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bone-studio.md) - [Curved Translucent Experimental Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptors-apartment.md)
