# IR-Controlled Amplifiers Amethyst X-1 Docking System Adjusts According to Hand Gestures By Matt Ho | Published 2012-01-03 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/amethyst-x-1-docking-system References: [coolmaterial](http://coolmaterial.com/tech/amethyst-x-1-ipodiphone-docking-system/) & [brookstone](http://www.brookstone.com/amethyst-x-1-ipod-iphone-docking-system) The Amethyst X-1 Docking System is a nifty looking set of speakers, but looks aside, it's the fact that it's IR-controlled that really makes it stand out from everything else on the market. When I say IR-controlled, what I mean is that the Amethyst X-1 Docking System is controlled via [hand gestures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/universal-wearable-controller). With a simple wave, users can play, pause, stop and select songs off their devices. Of course, like [many docks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/astellkern-pd10), this will charge the device while it's in use. The Amethyst X-1 is also compatible with several MP3 players and is not limited to just [Apple](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/harman-kardon-radiance-2400) products. There's also a remote that comes with it, but I'm sure most people would prefer the fun of waving their hands to control the dock instead. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.3/10 - Popularity: 10% | Activity: 22% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 10% men, 90% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Ir-controlled Amplifiers:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop new audio devices that can be controlled through hand gestures, offering a unique and interactive user experience. ### Who This Affects Most - **Audio Technology:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create innovative audio products that incorporate IR-controlled features, enhancing user convenience and engagement. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Mood-Powered Smartphone Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mixx-speaker.md) - [Ice-Inspired Ferrofluid Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iceberg-crystal-speaker.md) - [Interactive Music Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sound-maestro.md) - [Induction Smartphone Speaker Docks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wireless-speaker-charging-dock.md) - [Digital Analog Wireless Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mark-hifi.md) - [Stealthy Multifunctional Speaker Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eko-system.md) - [Exposed Component Audio Amplifiers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ampieq-sound-amplifier.md) - [Gesture-Controlled Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spatial-touch.md) - [Hand-Sensing Musical Instruments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roli-airwave.md)
