The [Amazon](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/amazon-2) Sidewalk program is a future-facing initiative from the eCommerce brand that would work to enhance connectivity in neighborhoods by allowing for Internet sharing between households.

The program would work by enabling the brand's own devices like Amazon [Alexa](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ultraloq-smart-home-locks) speakers, Ring-branded solutions and more to use nearby Internet connectivity to get the equipment online. This would work effectively when setup requires cloud connectivity that might not be available at that moment.

The Amazon Sidewalk program imagines neighborhoods transformed into expansive connectivity hubs where Internet would function more like a [mesh](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eero1) than individual hotspots. The program would be capped at 500MB of data usage per month and only require minuscule amounts of bandwidth to function effectively. The program is expected to be rolled out starting June 8 and will allow consumers weary about being involved with the option to opt out.
