# Flowing Metal Cloud Installations The 'Aluminum Flower Garden' Engulfs a Ceiling with Metal Waves By Alexander Lam | Published 2013-06-20 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aluminum-flower-garden References: [psfk](http://www.psfk.com/2013/06/aluminum-flower-ceiling-art.html) & [moriyukiochiai](http://www.moriyukiochiai.com/architecture/aluminium_flower_garden/) Bearing down on patrons of the [HANA](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hana-chair) restaurant and Bar, the Aluminum Flower Garden flows across the ceiling. Designers at Moriyuki Ochiai Architects created the installation to augment the HANA's interior. Though intended to represent a garden, the smooth curves and continuous lines give the impression that metal clouds are hanging overhead. Inspired by origami, the designers decided to use a [single plane of aluminum](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folded-time) in order to create the sculpture. Just like origami uses a single piece of paper to create something miraculous, the Aluminum Flower Garden uses a single piece of metal. Each flowing fold was made to represent a petal of a flower. A theme of flowers was chosen because HANA is a Japanese word for flower. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.8/10 - Popularity: 34% | Activity: 13% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Flowing Metal Installations:** Creating fluid and dynamic metal installations that add visual interest to interior spaces. - **Origami-inspired Design:** Exploring the use of a single plane of material to create intricate and artful sculptures. - **Nature-inspired Interior Decor:** Incorporating natural elements and motifs into interior design to create immersive and visually captivating environments. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** Opportunity for interior designers to explore innovative approaches in incorporating metal installations as focal points in commercial and residential spaces. - **Art and Sculpture:** Artists and sculptors can embrace origami-inspired techniques to create unique and visually striking sculptures using a single material. - **Hospitality:** Hotels, restaurants, and bars can utilize nature-inspired interior decor, like the Aluminum Flower Garden, to create memorable and immersive dining experiences for guests. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Floating Canopy Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/piloti-canopy.md) - [Japanese Landscape-Donned Restaurants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ginza-41.md) - [Blooming Clustered Art Forms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/structural-botany.md) - [Reflective Indoor Gardens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/space-caviar.md) - [Cloud-Like French Restaurants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mon-nuage.md) - [Cascading Aluminum Pipe Museums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/audeum-museum.md) - [Resin Gravity Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-great-tree.md) - [Reflective Public Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flowers-and-butterflies-are-dancing.md) - [Monumental Air Installation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iwagumi-air-scape.md)
