Built in the 1970s, the cabin itself has a rather post-modern aesthetic as it is semi-circle shaped and rooted on top of a massive granite escarpment. The renovation by the Altius Architecture team has seen the original floor plan kept, yet the entire interior has been revamped in a manner that makes it look like a [fashionable city penthouse](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lakeside-living). It's interesting to see how the [family cabin by the lake](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ely-retreat) has evolved from shabby to chic and this renovation project by the Altius Architecture team is a prime example. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.8/10 - Popularity: 65% | Activity: 12% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Refined Cottage Renovations:** Opportunity for architects and designers to transform traditional rustic cottages into stylish and modern spaces. - **Post-modern Aesthetic:** Opportunity for architects to explore unique and unconventional designs using post-modern principles. - **Urban Influence in Cottage Design:** Opportunity for designers to incorporate urban-inspired elements into cottage architecture for a contemporary and stylish look. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture and Design:** Architects and designers can capitalize on the trend of renovating cottages into sophisticated and fashionable spaces. - **Hospitality and Tourism:** Hotels and resorts can adapt the refined cottage aesthetic to provide guests with a luxurious and unique accommodation experience. - **Real Estate and Property Development:** Property developers can seize the opportunity to transform traditional cottages into upscale and marketable properties for sale or rent. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Idyllic Tranquil Nature-Surrounding Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/algonquin-highlands-cottage.md) - [Tranquil Cozy Canadian Cottages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/white-rock-cottage.md) - [Tranquil Seasonal Canadian Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/green-cabin.md) - [Juxtaposing Retro Cottage Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drew-mandel-architects.md) - [Ontario Landscape-Inspired Cottages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pine-island-cottage.md) - [Angular Getaway Cabin Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/halfmoon-bay.md) - [Wedge-Shaped Stealthy Cottages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/barbora-vokac-taylor-architect.md) - [Compact Cottage Revivals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rustic-renovation.md) - [Intimate High-Altitude Cottages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/altihut.md)
