The young designer attends the Barlett School of Architecture and his [urban-centric proposal](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/urban-ecological-design) is geared to satisfy coursework. Dubbed 'London Physic Gardens: A New London Necropolis,' the project builds on sustainability and the values of the modern metropolitan. The alternative to cremation requires a plot with rich potential. Sam Coulton places his "new city of the dead" at the previous location of Chelsea's Pleasure Gardens. The idea of the sustainable proposal is to wrap the deceased in blue-printed shroulds and harbor the nutrient-rich power of their bodies to "[grow plants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/treesoil) for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show." In addition, the environmentally friendly cemetery has the potential to "stain the city a cerulean color" by way of the dye that will inevitably enter the water cycle. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.7/10 - Popularity: 34% | Activity: 10% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) > [Eco Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/ecoarchitecture) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Sustainable Burial:** The trend of sustainable burial seeks to offer eco-conscious alternatives to traditional methods of cremation or burial. - **Urban-centric Design:** Urban-centric design trends aim to create sustainable and innovative solutions in metropolitan areas, including cemetery designs. - **Eco-friendly Cemeteries:** The trend of eco-friendly cemeteries focuses on creating burial spaces that are environmentally sustainable and reduce negative impacts on the surrounding ecosystem. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Funeral Services:** The funeral services industry can explore disruptive innovation opportunities by incorporating sustainable burial practices and eco-friendly cemetery designs into their offerings. - **Architecture and Design:** Architecture and design industries can explore disruptive innovation opportunities by creating urban-centric cemetery designs that focus on sustainability and innovative urban landscapes. - **Environmental Conservation:** The environmental conservation industry can explore disruptive innovation opportunities by collaborating with cemetery designers to develop eco-friendly burial practices that support biodiversity and ecosystem preservation. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Biodegradable Burial Caskets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loop-biotech.md) - [Tree-Covered Vertical Mausoleum](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hollywood-forever-cemetery.md) - [Mycelium-Made Biodegradable Urns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sail-funerary-urn.md) - [Eco-Friendly Pet Tree Burial Kits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ecofriendly-pet-tree-burial-kit.md) - [Deep Sea Funerals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/deep-sea-funeral.md) - [Expandable Spherical Monolithic Urns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/urna-project.md) - [Philosopher-Neighbouring Burial Plots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/karl-marxs-tomb.md) - [Reflective Memorial Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sanctum-of-trees.md) - [Design-Forward Funerary Urn Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/funerary-urn.md)
