# Glazed Bat-Shaped Homes André Pihl Produced an Alternative House Design to Maximize Sea Views By Kalin Ned | Published 2018-04-18 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alternative-house-design References: [dezeen](https://www.dezeen.com/2018/04/15/andre-pihl-architecture-holiday-summer-house-bat-shaped-sweden/) & [archdaily](https://www.archdaily.com/photographer/andre-pihl) Architect André Pihl's alternative house design for this [Swedish summer home](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sommarhus-e) is bat-shaped. The reason for this is that he sought to create a structure that would embrace the inspiring [scenic views of the Swedish archipelago](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hors). Dubbed 'Villa G,' André Pihl's alternative house design is fully glazed, darkly painted and exceptionally modern. The idea was to create a "refined and calming ambiance" for the site — a quiet space that offers breathtaking panoramas of the southern horizon of the Baltic Sea. The building plan incorporates "three interlocking diamond-shaped volumes." The communal spaces are within the middle portion of the bat-shaped dwelling, while the private wings on either side of the alternative house design contain bedrooms, bathrooms and small lounge areas. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.7/10 - Popularity: 31% | Activity: 13% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Glazed Bat-shaped Homes:** An innovative design approach for maximizing sea views in coastal regions. - **Alternative House Design:** Creating structures that provide a refined and calming ambiance with breathtaking panoramas of the surroundings. - **Interlocking Diamond-shaped Volumes:** Incorporating architectural elements that create unique living spaces while offering a modern aesthetic. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture:** Creating alternative, modern homes that emphasize views of coastal regions. - **Real Estate:** Developing innovative housing options for coastal regions that maximize views of the surrounding environment. - **Construction:** Implementing unique design elements and architectural structures to create modern homes with a strong emphasis on the surrounding environment. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Compact Calming Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-sheltered-space.md) - [Natural Material Stilted Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yngsj.md) - [Chic Curved Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/curved-house1.md) - [Blocky Structural Coastal Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sa-hjort.md) - [Geometric Cave-Like Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cavelike-homes.md) - [Organic Coastal Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/diachok-architects.md) - [Elevated Timber-Clad Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/victory-bay-house.md) - [Tar-Coated Timber Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-tjurpannan.md) - [Fish Lifestyle-Inspired Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-of-gills.md)
