# Spectacularly Terraced Mansions The Aloe Ridge House Diminishes Barriers Between Inside and Out By Vasiliki Marapas | Published 2014-06-23 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aloe-ridge-house References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2014/06/23/aloe-ridge-house-by-metropole-architects/) & [metropolearchitects](http://www.metropolearchitects.com/) The [Aloe Ridge House](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aloe-very-bed-sheet) by Metropole Architects is a scenic hideaway located in the Eden Rock Coastal Forest Estate on the southern coast of Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa. The bountiful home is perfect for both entertaining and relaxing. The outdoor area is just as beautiful and abundant as the home's lavish interior. In fact, it practically feels as though the indoors is outdoors. With their creative use of [floor-length glass](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/big-sky-beach-house), the architects have blurred the distinction between inside and out. Natural light permeates every corner of this luxurious pad, so you can rise and set with the sun, no matter what room you're in. Moreover, the house is ridged with an impressive [wrap-around terrace](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/villa-bo), accessed by sliding glass doors from nearly every room on the upper level, furthering the naturalistic appeal. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.6/10 - Popularity: 89% | Activity: 71% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Blurring Boundaries:** The Aloe Ridge House demonstrates the trend of blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces, creating a seamless connection between the two. - **Abundant Outdoor Spaces:** The Aloe Ridge House showcases the trend of creating abundant and beautiful outdoor spaces that are just as luxurious as the interior, allowing for both entertaining and relaxation. - **Naturalistic Design:** The Aloe Ridge House exemplifies the trend of incorporating natural elements into the design, such as floor-length glass and natural light, to create a harmonious and peaceful living environment. ### Where This Applies - **Architecture:** Architectural firms can explore innovative ways to blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces, creating homes or buildings that seamlessly blend with nature. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can incorporate more abundant and picturesque outdoor spaces into their designs, allowing for a closer connection to nature and creating serene and inviting living environments. - **Real Estate:** Developers can market properties that prioritize naturalistic design and sublime outdoor spaces, attracting buyers who seek a luxurious yet harmonious and peaceful living environment. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Thick-Walled Coastal Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hytte-riverview.md) - [Stepped Hillside Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/b2a-architects.md) - [Cliffside Minimalist Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aip-azia-villa.md) - [Clay Ridge Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/birdwood-house.md) - [Meadow-Overlooking Sleek Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studioac-1.md) - [Chilean Hillside Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-three-heights.md) - [Organic Coastal Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/diachok-architects.md) - [Coastal Courtyard Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/patio-house-residence.md) - [Hillside Embedded Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-the-slope.md)
