# Rippling Ribbon Backrests The Alexey Chair Embodies the Elegance of a Musical Instrument By Amelia Roblin | Published 2011-09-22 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alexey-chair References: [industrialdesignserved](http://www.industrialdesignserved.com/gallery/ALEXEY-CHIAR/968779) If the Alexey Chair was a musical instrument, what noise would it make? Assembled with [wire strings, machine heads](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/woven-chair-designs) and a gently curving spine, this bar stool might presumably emit a sound that resembles a guitar. There's a timeless beauty that many classical strings embody, found in the way that their exquisite forms produce the most magnificent notes. Consistent with this aesthetic, this graceful piece of furniture by Annis Lender may take on an ageless appearance that will remain stylish for generations to come. It is an interesting concept to consider, since often it's the details of a design that go in and out of fashion. The Alexey Chair comprises an [elegant curling and undulating backrest](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/archipen) against a rigid metal frame. The [sculptural interplay of stiff and sinuous](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/amia) may always be central in art. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.2/10 - Popularity: 54% | Activity: 5% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Musical Furniture Design:** Opportunity to merge musical instruments with furniture design to create innovative, multi-functional pieces. - **Wire Sculpture Furniture:** Opportunity to create sculptural pieces with the use of wire and other unconventional materials. - **Curved Spine Design:** Opportunity to incorporate the beauty of curvature in design and furniture pieces for a timeless aesthetic. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Design:** Innovative designs may emerge when designers transcend traditional boundaries of what defines furniture. - **Musical Instrument Design:** Opportunities exist for designers to create new, experimental instruments that challenge our notions of what instruments can be. - **Sculpture Art:** Incorporating unique and unconventional materials, such as wire, in sculpture art pieces may result in stunning, non-traditional pieces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Structurally Complex Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-arch-chair.md) - [Wavy Lounge Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wavy-lounge-chair.md) - [Nostalgic Bistro-Style Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aroma-chair.md) - [Curvaceous Ribbon-Like Armchairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/qeeboo-ribbon-armchair.md) - [Slick Futuristic Chair Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/classical-norwegian-design.md) - [Chaotically Natural Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kkochgalam-chair.md) - [Water Ripples-Inspired Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/water-ripples-chair.md) - [Perforated Steel Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stamping-chair.md) - [Zen-Focused Furniture Pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/goyo-chair.md)
