# Public Alcohol Testers Coin-Operated Alcospot Vending Machine Tells You Your Limits By Bianca | Published 2009-11-18 | Lifestyle Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alcospot References: [alcospot](http://www.alcospot.com/) AlcoSpot is a coin operated alcohol tester designed for restaurant, bar or club patrons who have had a few brewskies and want to make sure they’re still at a safe limit. 10 minutes after you’ve had a drink, just pop in 50 cents then blow into the machine with a straw for about 6 seconds. I’m assuming it’s meant to prevent drunk driving, but I’d also like to suggest there should be a safe limit for [drunken texting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drunk-mode-locker) too. The AlcoSpot public alcohol tester comes in different covers, including Uncle Sam, a silhouette of a cowboy in a field and cartoon women at what looks like a club. Alternatively, the covers can be fully customized with an image of your choice! While the AlcoSpot is an incredible innovation, and an easy, 24/7 way to check your [blood alcohol limits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bac-calculator-by-bacdrunk), I can imagine it might also lead to rowdy [drink-offs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pour-decision) where people challenged each other’s tolerance. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.3/10 - Popularity: 47% | Activity: 15% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Health](https://www.trendhunter.com/health) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Public Alcohol Testing:** Opportunities for disruptive innovation include developing advanced technology for more accurate and reliable alcohol testing in public spaces. - **Coin-operated Devices:** Disruptive innovation opportunities lie in creating new coin-operated devices that offer different services or experiences to customers in bars, clubs, and other venues. - **Customizable Vending Machines:** Innovation can be found in creating vending machines that can be fully customized to reflect the brand or image desired by the business or individual. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Hospitality:** The hospitality industry can explore opportunities to implement public alcohol testing devices as a proactive measure for customer safety and responsible service. - **Entertainment:** The entertainment industry can leverage the concept of coin-operated devices to enhance customer engagement and create new revenue streams within venues. - **Vending:** The vending industry can embrace customizable vending machines to cater to unique consumer preferences and provide a more personalized purchasing experience. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Revolutionary Alcohol Detection Software](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alcohol-detection-software.md) - [Drug-Detecting Drink Strips](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/greenlane.md) - [Workplace-Focused Alcohol Breathalyzers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alcohol-breathalyzers.md) - [Drunk Driving Detection Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drunk-driving-detection.md) - [Portable Methanol Analytical Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/analytical-device.md) - [Adult Detoxification Drinks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/safety-shot.md) - [Impaired Judgment Phone Controls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drunk-mode-locker.md) - [BAC-Reducing Beverages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sure-shot.md) - [Beer-Dispensing Guitar Machines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/slay-to-pay.md)
