The current state of airport terminal designs shows a movement toward the slick and the futuristic, with architectural motifs that denote easiness and efficiency. The airport terminal design that Chinese studio [MAD](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lishui-airport) developed in the city of Changchun, Jilin province, China is no different. The practice was tasked with designing Terminal 3 at the Changchun Longjia International Airport and it chose to embrace inspiration from a floating feather. The structure has a fan-shaped form and it will span a whopping 270,000 square meters once it is complete. With the approximation of welcoming 22 million passengers a year and 54 aircraft gates, it is no surprise that MAD focused on developing a structure that is slick and airy.

MAD is working on this airport terminal design in collaboration with the [China Airport Planning & Design Institute](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/china-pond-passive-house) and the [Beijing Institute of Architectural Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/falling-hours).
