# Air Hockey-Winning Bots The Air Hockey Robot Ruthlessly Ensures That You Never Win a Game By Alexander Lam | Published 2013-06-17 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/air-hockey-robot References: [psfk](http://www.psfk.com/2013/06/adaptable-air-hockey-robot.html) & [mec2.tm.chiba-u.jp](http://mec2.tm.chiba-u.jp/~namiki/research/HighspeedAirHockey/index.html) A team of researchers at [Chiba University](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dual-perigee) in Japan has defeated the game of air hockey once and for all with their Air Hockey Robot. Using high speed image technology and advanced algorithms, the robot anticipates your moves to ensure that you never win another air hockey match again. According to the researchers, "The goal of this study is to develop the technology of [high-speed human interactive robot](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/great-robot-olympics)." The Air Hockey Robot works by using [high speed image processing](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-or-real) and a real-time control system. Algorithms determine where the puck will be by taking constantly taking pictures and then analyzing them. The robot is able to deny you from scoring in air hockey with three simple steps. The robot determines the puck's position and trajectory through imaging. Then, the required position is calculated by the robot. Finally, it moves its arm to defend against your shot. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.2/10 - Popularity: 9% | Activity: 18% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [AI](https://www.trendhunter.com/ai) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **High-speed Image Technology:** Air hockey robot uses high-speed image technology for improved game play experience - **Real-time Control System:** Air hockey robot uses real-time control system for better game play experience - **Human Interactive Robot:** Air hockey robot helps advance technology of high-speed human interactive robot ### Sectors Adopting This - **Gaming:** Air hockey robot disrupts the gaming industry by improving game play experience and fun - **Robotics:** Air hockey robot disrupts the robotics industry by advancing technology of high-speed human interactive robots - **Sports Equipment:** Air hockey robot disrupts the sports equipment industry with its innovation for game enhancement and improved customer experience ## Related on Trend Hunter - [AI-Powered Tennis Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pongbot-pace-s-series.md) - [AI Board Game Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sensetime.md) - [AI-Powered Chess Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/senserobot-debuts.md) - [Empathetic Interactive Game Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/forhpeus.md) - [AI-Powered Badminton Trainers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/badminton-trainers.md) - [Soccer-Dribbling Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/soccerdribbling-robot.md) - [AI-Powered Chess Boards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/robotic-chess-board.md) - [AI-Powered Chess Set Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/manya-cynus.md) - [Robot-Powered Board Games](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/board-game-robot.md)
