While many serious photographers would guffaw at the notion of [Instagram](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-generated-world) art, Ailine Liefeld embraces it.

The Berlin, Germany-based photographer recently took to the streets of New York City, snapping Instagram shots wherever she went. All photography is more or less instant; however, only Instagram allows for almost immediate editing. The on-the-fly nature of this particular strain of photography was well suited to Leifeld's purposes.

Launched in October 2010, Instagram is a free photo sharing application that lets people take photographs, [apply filters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/filtr) and share these photographs across various social networks. The photographs are limited to a square shape, thereby giving Instagram pictures a distinct look.

Liefeld wandered the nooks and crannies of the sprawling metropolis, taking square pictures of buildings, people, street-scenes, and, yes, food, that could be immediately uploaded to the cloud.
