# 70s-Inspired Ski Chalets This A-Frame Chalet is Resigned to Resemble Neighboring 1970s Cabins By Katherine Pendrill | Published 2016-03-10 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aframe-chalet References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2016/03/09/mountainside-cabin-whistler-scott-and-scott-snowboarders-house-canada-winter-retreat/) & [scottandscott](http://www.scottandscott.ca/) Canadian architectural firm Scott and Scott recently designed a beautiful A-frame chalet that mimics the look of [traditional 1970s ski cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jack-morgan). Although the A-frame style has been around for quite some time, the distinct design remains a popular choice for those who like to spend their weekends in the mountains. The beautiful A-frame chalet by Scott and Scott sits on a slopping rock face just outside of Whistler village. Because the home is surrounded by 1970s-style cabins, the architects decided to give the home a similar look. The result is an imposing structure with the same Gothic arch typical of older chalets. The chalet itself is made from [locally sourced douglas fir](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chalet-vale-perkins) and topped with wooden shingles, giving it a warm and rustic quality that fits perfectly into the mountainside neighborhood. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.8/10 - Popularity: 74% | Activity: 61% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **70s-inspired Ski Chalets:** Opportunity for architects and designers to create modern ski chalets with a nostalgic 1970s aesthetic. - **A-frame Architecture:** Potential for the revival of A-frame architecture in residential and vacation home design. - **Locally Sourced Materials:** Rise in demand for homes made from locally sourced materials, promoting sustainability and a connection to the local environment. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture and Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity for architects and designers to explore new styles and concepts for residential and vacation homes. - **Construction and Real Estate:** Opportunity for companies in the construction and real estate industries to cater to the demand for 70s-inspired ski chalets and A-frame architecture. - **Sustainable Building Materials:** Growth potential for the sustainable building materials industry as homeowners seek environmentally friendly options like locally sourced materials. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Contemporary Ski Home Projects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/traditional-ski-chalet.md) - [Sustainable Swiss Chalets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ls-design.md) - [Holiday Mountain Village Chalets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/perfect-day-house.md) - [Contemporary A-Frame Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/buoy-bay.md) - [Tranquil A‑Frame Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/steel-a-frame.md) - [Mountain Courtyard Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ski-house.md) - [Nordic-Inspired Alpine Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chalet-bertha.md) - [Rustic Striking A-Framed Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jack-morgan.md) - [Mass Timber Canadian Chalets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chalet-vale-perkins.md)
